Default Grill Guards

What many of us have done for a long time, adding the grill guards to protect the condensers and radiators from road debris, are now available from Chevrolet.

You can get them from Paragon for $300 if you do not mind installing them. They are powder-coated aluminum. There are cheaper ones on Amazon but they are plastic. I would not bother with those. I also got the side intake covers from Paragon for $190.

I guess if you just want GM parts and do not want to install them and do not mind paying the extra.

Based on the look of the mesh and description they appear to be the ones from Scrape Armor. I put them on my current car, but I feel that the holes in the mesh are a little too big. We will see. Had the ones from Paragon on the last car. The mesh holes were smaller and provided very good protection.

You are correct, the article in GMAuthority states they are provided by Scrape Armor.

Probably why they cost more than Paragon. Because Scrape Armor is making a profit and then GM is adding a profit.

A point - it is now pretty apparent that installing them will not affect the warranty

Yep, the Scrape Armor holes are about twice the size many of have used and have had zero heat issues. In fact, mine on 100 F SC days don't increase the coolant temp at all. That is aggressive street driving NOT Tracking on a hot Texas day where you're using a lot of the 495 hp a high percentage of time.

I, like many, purchased from Custom Car Grills, who makes AC Condenser "Protectors" for many cars and trucks. They are made from thin aluminum that is deep for rigidity while having 77% open area. Window screen, for example is less that 50%. They are power coated black (they also have in silver for a few dollars less.) I like others bought their 16" X 48" sheet and cut my own. Enough for the two large front, two small front AND IF you think needed the rear fender side scoops.

They offer in 1/4-inch mesh OR more like the Scape Armor double that size. IMO the large would not be good for my main concern keeping out bugs! Suggest you order directly from them as they lowered their price to compete with the copies coming from China you'll see on Amazon and eBay. 1st class product.

This is a many picture/long caption PDF of How To Install: http://netwelding.com/CF_Splitter.pdf
I show what I and others did of installing with no black plastic ties showing and the easier method with a few visible. Like the GM product, it requires removing the screws holding the front aero planes. It also includes a Link to get patterns to make them:

Many of us have installed this smaller opening product from Custom Car Grills. 1st class company! They now offer a larger mesh like the Scrape Armor GM approved product.

I and most other bought power coated Black Aluminum. I bought the large sheet and cut my own. Easy to do with tin snips. They also sell precut.

I like some others installed without any plastic ties showing. That requires the extra step of removing the grill bar. My PDF covers that detail as well

Fit perfect and look great!

The Scrape Armor openings are probably sized to accommodate worst case track conditions. Those that use the grills with the smaller openings will probably never have a problem.

But if I ever have an overheating problem while under warranty I'm going to remove my 0.25" screens and verify the problem is still there before I bring it in for service.

I have these Scrape Armor guards, perfect fit and were of OEM quality, as you'd expect for a genuine GM accessory. These have been validated by GM for track use and will not void the warranty. Take that for what you will, but some will appreciate the additional peace of mind. I bought them for the quality & fitment (and was willing to pay accordingly) and was impressed with them compared to the other choices available on the market.

Are they protecting the grills to your satisfaction? I'm thinking about going with this option when I take delivery later this year.

Yes, very happy with them. They've gone through a few roadtrips now, have collected plenty of bugs/debris, and are holding up nicely.

I was also in the initial order for the Scrape Armor Guards, and I'm also very happy with them. Despite the larger openings than most of the aftermarket offerings, which allow more airflow, I have zero radiator damage in 2K miles.

The additional airflow was apparently necessary for them to be certified as a "GM Genuine Part," which is stamped on the box.
