Default Flash Flood at Spring Mountain

Flash Floods Cause Damage at Spring Mountain

Facility has now opened and resumed classes

Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club, along with the town of Pahrump, was hit with a series of flash floods this past week that has caused millions of dollars in damage. The weather heavily affected normal operations at the racetrack, including many residences at SM Estates, and set back several track and building expansions that were currently in place. Due to this, two classes were forced to be cancelled for the safety of the students attending the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School but will be rescheduled without charge. Spring Mountain is operational and is running its regularly scheduled events. The lasting destruction, however, will take months to repair from the severe, unanticipated natural event.

BTW, this happened on July 31, at about noon. We had to cancel due to the amount of debris and standing water on our road courses. Every track configuration was hit hard, but our maintenance folks, headed by Tim Darling, construction crews from Double M and Wulfenstein worked from sunup to sundown to get three tracks and skidpads cleaned up enough to run on this past Tuesday the 2nd!
As of today, our east course is almost done enough to be able to use for the next scheduled event(s).
Thankfully, no one was injured, and only a few of our c8's had some debris under them, but no heavy damage. Our shop and support crews for the fleet worked hard to move anything that was in harms way!
Again, no other programs have been cancelled or re-scheduled with the exception of the two programs that were running the day we got hit...
We appreciate the folks who reached out! today was nice that we had a light rain, helping to wet down the dust...
Stay safe everyone!

Behind the clubhouse

our tunnel is almost back in operation!

This is the debris we had to move. the track itself is intact!

Here is some drone video we shot just after it stopped raining...

Wowzers, amazing job on getting back up and running so fast! My experience in the C8 owners school was fantastic. Your operation is top-notch and only getting better, even with mother nature bringing setbacks!

This pic I got during my visit seems appropriate for a rain-induced flooding update thread. Luckily our rain was light and temporary.

When I first heard classes were cancelled and folks posted asking if they would get a .........rain check.......... I knew the class operations at SM would take care of their customers.

Glad no one was hurt and hopefully residential damages were minor.

I gave it to their marketing team while I was there. This one has been touched up for slightly better contrast. I gave them the original too without the touchup. Unfortunately the perfect arc over the rows of C8s was fleeting. When I tried to move to the right to capture the rainbow without the golf cart and building in the pic, it wasnt possible to pick up the full arc of it. This was the best I could capture in the moment.

Big kudos and well-deserved publicity about the crews and contractors that worked to make the track usable. Really nice work. Overhead vid shows it all. Some western states could use that water. But that's another story.

Heads up to those attending RF @ SM for the next 4-7 days. We have light rain forecasted for Tuesday 8-9-22 through Saturday 8-13-22. But be aware that light rain can turn into significant flooding coming down off the mountains to the north of Pahrump.
Yesterdays rain storm wasn't much here in Pahrump, but Hy 160 coming over the pass from Vegas was closed for an hour or so due to deep water on the highway.

Did they also take care of the customers who flew there and will have to pay to fly out again?

I left class Thursday the July 28th and went to the airport only to sit on the tarmac 2 hours waiting for the rain to subside. I assume this is the storm that flooded your establishment.
Hope you are all safe and up and running soon! Had a great time with you all! What a fun first class operation. Wear my new hat everyday. See you again for Level 1 class in the spring.
