I am trying to get used to the DCT after coming from a 7MT GS. I like the quick shifts and the slight pop between shifts. The last month or 2 my driving has been pretty mellow, mostly due to traffic etc. It seems like the shift quickness has mellowed and the exhaust pop is gone. Can this be due to the trans leaning how I've been driving? If so how do I get the quickness and pop back. I would think in Sport mode that would be there but it does not seem that way. I installed an AWE touring exhaust and the pop on shifts was great even at slow speeds in city driving. Seems like its gone. Thanks for any help.

Yes, and it could also be from the drive mode setting.

Also, how much or how fast you are accelerating.

When I 1st installed the exhaust it popped on shift even when in slow city traffic. Now, not at all unless much harder acceleration.

What drive mode are you using? The shifts are much more rapid with powertrain set to Track, and it pops a lot more in that setting, too. In Sport, it's not as agressive with shifting as in Track, but moreso than in Tour.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I have been using Sport all along. Something has changed. I have read that the DCT "learns" your driving habits and adusts shifts. Just not sure how to get it back. Likely just have to run it harder for it to relearn. I was wondering how long it takes and if there is anything you can do to sort of "reset" it to where it was.

Yep it's supposed to learn but I never noticed. I use only 2 Drive Modes 99% of the time. Z Mode with Powertrain set to Track as is eBoost and NPP (Ride and Steering set to Sport.) Also coming from a 2017 M7 Grand Sport I drove in Sport 95% of the time. In my rural area seldom used 7th as don't use the Interstate and never found 6 useful so went thru the gears to 5th. Z Mode drives about the same. Love the fast downshifts thru several gears when braking aggressively before a turn! I have MY Mode, the only other I use, set in Sport Drive Mode with eBoost and NPP set to Track so handling is the same in both. If I use modest throttle in Z Mode shifts about the same, but when driving more aggressively is shifts at higher rpm both up and down.

I have an easy workaround, so it never goes in Touring when I exit Z Mode. I don't press the steering wheel button to exit. Without looking or playing Russian Roulette I put my hand on the Drive Mode **** Wrist Rest and give one hard twist CCW and it's in MY Mode. I live on a 2 mile long 25 mph limit twisty road so after turning off a highway in Z Mode it's rotate the Drive Mode CCW. When I start it's in MY MODE!

Since I did the AWE exhaust with no valves I dont worry about NPP. So I use Sport, gives me about the same as you, steering and ride and brakes. Need to play more with manual and see how it shifts. Also will play more with My Mode.
Thanks

I used Manual Mode for the first month exclusively getting over my 62 years of EVERY DD being a standard shift! Was shifting about the way i did my M7 C7 GS. BUT I leave a stop sign at the end of my street and have to merge into often heavy traffic in both directs on a 4-lane divided high was coming from and going to Myrtle Beach! With a 5.17 to 1 dif and 1st gear the combined ratio is 15;1 It reaches Red Line at ~35 mph. That compares to only 10:1 in the GS where 1st gear Red line is ~50 mph. It gets there so quickly and the upshift paddle is out of position to pull! No fun with traffic coming up fast at ~70 mph and all the fuel stops! Z Mode Power set to Track goes to 6500 and shifts!

This is an interesting Video where a fellow ([i]who is driving less aggressively than I do) only uses Z Mode and he shows why. Woth a look.

not 100%, but having dealt with AFM valves extensively on my C7 (not NPP), there seemed to be a pretty noticeable difference from sport to track mode! (Non Z51, 8 speed auto, BBE axle back exhaust).

in our 2022 C8 z51. There’s a big difference between sport and track mode!! Obviously the NPP valves open differently, but track mode sets evrything to the max!! I barely ever drive in sport mode. I have Z mode set to track settings, minus brakes/steering set to sport.
my mode I have set to basically touring mode but with the exhaust turned all the way up.

one the biggest things I noticed is how the transmission performs between driving modes. For whatever reason, my mode short shifts 1sr gear and holds 2nd gear almost all the way. It’s rather annoying because 9 out 10 times when I gas it from anything over 5mph, it will stay in 2nd gear. (45-50mph) which I then hit cruise control. It’s fun to get to the speed limit then just cruise. But even in cruise control set at say 45mph, the trans will shift gears depending on drive mode. Same for 70-80mph on freeway.

only thing I can think of is to pull the negative battery cable to reset the computer.

i haven’t tried that yet in the C8s mainly because I don’t want to have to back and redo all of my settings. (Please someone tell me if pulling the battery cable is bad for the C8!!!!! Used to do it all the time on the C7)

I'd lke to know if pulling the battery terminal will reset the trans shifting. Might have to try it, not sure how much else would be reset.

I think the learning may be short term. If I kick it a bit, mine will then start to up and downshift more aggressively for a short time. But it will revert afterwards. I have not noticed any long term changes in a year and 3000 miles.

Just a thought maybe when you know the driving will be mellow put it in touring mode. Then go with your sport mode on more aggressive drives maybe the learning will be via modes somewhat? Because what if it is learning that style in the specific mode you are in. Not saying this is true as I've not researched it but just a thought as I read some comments here.

Default Driver Influenced Gear Selection

I too have read statements about how the car "learns" your driving style and adjusts. Based on my experience with mine, and also a review of the owner' s manual, I believe (as I mentioned above) that this learning is "short term". The only thing I found in the 2023 Owner's Manual that sounds like adjusting behavior based on driving style is in the Driving and Operating section under a heading called Driver Influenced Gear Selection and a related indicator called "Performance Transmission Active". The way I read it, this will "engage" automatically after a sustained period of performance driving is detected. It will do this in any drive mode, not just sport or track. It will influence upshift and downshift points in all modes, but will be more aggressive in sport and track modes. Transmission behavior will transition to a level appropriate to current driving after a short period of time. See attached on the subject, and the associated indicator light.
