I experienced a C8 “teachable moment” after getting out of my stingray today. I had just returned home after picking up a “carryout” dinner. Some miscellaneous information..
· Wearing shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops
· Drivers side of garage wall lined with all my normal junk
· The day B4, my wife had told me to park closer to wall so she would not ding the vette with her door
So, I get home with dinner. Get out of car and locked the door while turning to walk toward back of car – carrying the dinner containers in both hands. I carefully managed to walk between the car and the wall of junk, until I got to the very back of car and my golf bag. I had to “suck it up” to squeeze between the rear bumper and golf bag. During this 1 to 2 second span of time the lifetime learning moment was “seared” in my memory (my calf) forever!
A word to the wise – A MID-ENGINE (C8) AUTOMOBILE’s EXHAUST TIP WILL BURN THE **** OUT OF YOU! I guess the short, partially enclosed run of tail pipe definitely change the characteristics of an exhaust pipe and nozzle tip.
The left outside edge of the C8’s exhaust tip protrudes from the outer corner of the body/bumper and it will “reach out to you” if you bump up against it. It may be a good idea to inform the wife, kids, and grandkids about this. Whether you tell your father, uncles, brothers, in-laws, neighbors, is your personal choice.
Just thought I would share the experience. In my many years of reading through this forum, I don’t remember seeing a thread on this topic.
Not only are the exhaust tips hotter because of the much shorter exhaust length from the heads to the tips, but they also generate a significant amount of heat in the minute it takes me to back up from the garage onto the driveway for washing!
Here is where my neighbors car ended up after his 'flip flop' got stuck under the gas pedal on his Lexus SUV..His driveway is directly behind this picture..I just happened to be outside when he went into his 'spin', as there was a contractor working at my house at the time...I said good morning to him as he got in the car , and didn't pay any attention again until I saw him spinning out of control in our narrow , residential street..this is where he ended up. Thankfully, he was unhurt..Towed out
