I have asked this question a few times in my posted threads with no answer so I am trying it one last time as a new discussion.
The new 2023 c8 has the dct filter life on the info. screen along with the oil and trans. life.
Does anyone know if there is an update that allows 2022 owners to have that too???
I have not been able to find anything on this..I appeal to the knowledge out there.
Thanks
Doubt it. Because how would it work? In a new C8, it’s programmed to count down to 7,500 miles, then 22,500, then 45,000, etc. If it was retrofitted to a “used” C8, how would it know where you are along the timeline since not everybody follows the schedule to the letter. Say you have (for example) 8,000 miles on the odometer, and if you followed the maintenance schedule to the letter, then you now have 500 miles on the new filter. But what if you had the first DCT filter change at 5,000 miles (like me)? How would your C8’s computer know that? Now it’s counting down to 22,500 miles, but you’ll be 2,500 miles late changing that filter because your current filter was changed 2,500 miles early. The only way I could see this being retrofitted correctly is for the Chevy dealers to have the ability to retrofit it, and they could do it when you have your DCT filter changed. The Chevy technician could set it to which DCT filter change is being performed (first change, second change, etc). Then it would be correctly aligned with the recommended schedule.
Really a great point about the complexity of adding the fluid filter life monitor after the car has been in service without that feature, and how it would be synchronized with any prior service.
From the 2020 service manual it appears that with a scan tool, the engine oil life monitor can be reset to any value - and this is used, for example, when replacing the Engine Control Module (ECM) which is apparently where the oil life is stored. The technician records it, then sets it back to the original value. This capability probably exists for the transmission fluid filter life monitor that was introduced in 2023. But even if it exists, it requires the "previous" value to be known, and it would not be if the filter life monitor is accidentally reset, or just being installed for the first time. According to the Owners Manual, if the fluid filter life is accidentally reset - it cannot be accurately reset until the next filter change. There are some instructions about when to change the filter in the case of an accidental reset, That procedure could be followed up to the next filter change (which it would have been anyway without the trans filter fluid life). The owner would need to be aware that the "new" fluid filter life monitor has been added, but cannot be relied on until the next filter change.
I am not aware of any offer to add the transmission fluid filter life monitor to earlier models. I agree it could not be done via an OTA, as it would require the owner to be fully aware of the update and the fact that the newly installed fluid filter life monitor cannot be relied upon until the next filter change and reset. And, as we know, GM typically provide very, very little information about the OTAs.
GM has only provide one "feature" update via OTAs, and that's the warning on the dash that you left your phone in the charger. And even that hasn't rolled out to everyone. Everything else has been a bug fixe or other update to the existing software. No new features.
Don't hold your breath waiting for GM to provide anything new to an existing car.
What I found fascinating is that he said the transmission is fully broke in at 7500 miles. I have never heard that. In light of the issues that have up come with these transmissions is food for thought for me. All failed transmissions that I have read about failed in less than 7500 miles. Maybe some were after but I have yet to read about one.
for one did not drive the car until the oil was warmed up, especially during the first 1500 miles. I still warm the oil up before taking it to the road. I have wondered what, if anything, happens to the transmissions when the car is started, the oil is cold and the car is immediately driven off sometimes in a spirited manner and it is not given a chance to warm up.
I have watched my oil temp as compared to the transmission fluid temp, they are close but the transmission oil, at least in mine, is usually a bit cooler. Not that what I did helped in any way but I bet it did not hurt.
That statement, about being fully broke in until 7500 miles, is really food for thought, at least for me.
Just my opinion.

There's just so much stuff in that Owner's Manual ......this doesn't say "fully broken in" - but it does refer to a 7500 mile break-in period for the transmission. Too bad its not all in one section about break-in.
It's $98.They should have the pan gasket too. Will need to call to confirm.
Rockauto for the DCT external filter
Summit for trans fluid.
You can drain, replace both the internal and external filters and fill for less than $600. It's not a hard job at all. I've done this on my ZF six speed (filter actually part of the pan) and many other old school transmissions (TH350/400/700R4).
I will have the dealer do the their first oil and DCT external filter change (which includes the solenoid cycling). I'll do all other trans fluid, oil and filter changes. I strongly suspect that after the 7500 mile mark, the clutch wear will be much reduced and the solenoid cycling won't be as much of a "requirement" for the DIYer.
Will do DCT filter and fluid dump and replace at 1500 miles. Will do DCT filter change at MM at the 7500 mile mark or thereabouts. Will send oils out for sampling and will share info once I get it back.

I agree it is a pretty simple job to do and having a lift it makes it simple. I'm having the dealer do the 3 year service just for documentation reasons. I suspect I will do the follow on service work in the future unless my old body can't do it. Once the warranty is done then I'll do the work. At 79 we'll see how long I can do it. I will know when I can' get out of the car , hahaha.

I have the same question. Is there’s going to be like an upgrade to the software?
