Default Car prep question / advice

Hey!

My C8 was delivered Friday to my Courtesy Dealer here in SoCal. I’m being told they have to prep their own cars before mine so it’s looking like a tue am pickup. Totally cool, I get it, I’m 100% good with this.

He said my engine cover is already in so that’s great! Did the car ship with the original cover and I’ll get that, or no cover?

Is there anything I should ask them to do beyond what they normally do?

Is there anything I should have them show me before I take the car, or can I just take the keys and go?

I heard the 70th sticker is installed by them, is that true? If so, I’m thinking I’ll ask them to not install it.

I asked that they don’t install the front plate.

2LT Z51 Mag Lift Stealth

Thanks guys!

If they sell corvette’s then I wouldn’t worry to much about it, let them do their thing. They should give you (put in trunk) back the black engine cover. Also look for the four pieces of rear brake ducts in the trunk also, they don’t get installed during PDI (for track use).

Do a thorough inspection inside and out, going to hard because of the excitement but important to document anything you have a question about.

Congratulations on the new ride!

Grab the keys and go? When I picked mine up at the museum the guy spent at about 2 hours going over the car and about 90 minutes of that was inside the car showing me everything, pairing my phone, doing some setting, etc. It was worth the time getting the instruction.

Yes, you should get the original engine cover and the major question I had to ask when I picked mine up when I was sitting in the car was how do I get out?

I’m picking it up before work, I’ll need to grab and go. I’m sure I can figure most things out and pair my phone.

I would say the main thing people request is to not have the car detailed as in washed. The car will be dirty but better then possibly swirls from the dealership using improper washing techniques.

That’s scary. I do plan on getting it ceramic coated asap.

Make sure the dealer installs the two front brake cooling ducts and the two upper rear brake cooling ducts (one on each side). The other four rear pieces mentioned above are only for track use but the front and upper rears should be installed on every Z51. Some dealers will argue about that - read the instructions on the PDI form and also installation instructions that come in the plastic bag with the cooling ducts. Don't let them talk you out of it.

Make sure you get paint correction, even on a new car, before the ceramic coating. You'll be glad you did. Most shops that do ceramic coating will advise you to do the paint correction.

thanks for all this. I’ll def do paint correction before. Why would they not install the cooling ducts?

Because, either by ignorance or laziness, many dealers will try to convince you that all 6 of the rear brake cooling ducts are for track use only - when in fact the 2 upper ones go on all z51 cars.

Brake ducts pieces do get installed with the exception of the bottom rear pieces, those get installed when you go to the track. The PDI sheet explains all of this.

That is correct. They are too low to for street driving - would soon be torn off.

Owners can Google - C8 Corvette PDI Document.
The document shows the checklist the Dealer Service Department use during this process.

Even if it's a Vette seller, my advice is go speak with them NOW about any and all your concerns. Leave nothing to chance that you can possibly influence. All the best... and ENJOY!
