The major cause of lifter failure is from engine idle not the AFM. An example is a commercial vehicle such as a police car that has many many hours idling has lifter problems. Also the lifters are not American made. This information comes from several friends that are employed by Chevrolet dealers.

For all the people who truly believe AFM (v4 mode) doesnt do any harm to the engine in any way, so be it. But realize this, AFM does not do the engine mechanicals any good either going in and out of V4 mode constantly. The engine would be happier not doing this nonsense and how many really care if one gets 30 MPG without or 32MPG with.
