How does the front and rear cameras operate? Is the system capable of recording both front and rear at the same time
Reason I ask is yesterday while i was driving in my hometown i was stopped first in line to turn left. When I get the green arrow to proced i go through intersection and even have my steering wheel straight again and all of a sudden wham I get hit on the right side very rear of my vehicle. The other driver gets out saying he had the right of way, I say I had the green arrow. Cop gets there, iam shaken by the experience, my first accident with 50 years of driving. Cop says there are cameras for the intersection, if they are working, ow boy..
This was thankfully while I was driving my 96 Jeep Cherokee.
I am in the process of waiting to finalize my build on a C8. I know the 2 and 3t have cameras that can record. Really sucks this happened with my Jeep, i have kept it a nice running vehicle . I would be most upset if someoe pulled this stunt on a new Vett. Can't have anything nice it seems.

PDR (Performance Data Recorder) only records video from the front camera that is located up by the rear view mirror. You would have to get an aftermarket system to record video from a rear facing camera.

Sorry to hear that you had your first accident in 50 years. I'm in a similar boat with 63 years! But today with distracted driver's it is difficult. Fellow may have looked down hearing a cell phone beep! And right of way? If he hit your rear had lots of time to stop when he saw your car!

My wife gives me a hard time when I come to an intersection and pause as a car is approaching a stop side in the crossing lanes, saying you have the "right of way!" Remind her if the dud doesn't stop, I lose! Hope it works out.

BTW the "recording camera" has nothing to do with the car's front and rear cameras, it's separate and ONLY looks forward.

The PDR camera is the only one that records. It faces forward from the center of the windshield.

The front bumper mounted cameras and the backup cameras don’t record.

Cheers!

Performance Data Recorder (PDR) only records the front view. There is no recording for the rear. In this case, I bet the PDR would have video of the traffic light and green arrow at a minimum. It may have even recorded the other car while you were turning.

I certainly have more peace of mind knowing the PDR is auto recording while driving. I just wish it had an alarm/sentry mode that would auto record on motion or vibration. Even $20 dash cams have vibration detection. OTA update GM!

Hopefully the traffic cams were working. Best of luck!

The PDR, if recording, would show you turning and likely show the green turn arrow as well.

The original build request I did with the dealer was a convertible with lt2. I have been reading all I can on how to set up a build, most all say build it how you want. Since iam a retired mechanic I know meckansimuns do wear and there are flukes so I was swaying towards simplyfing my build, for the long haul if you will, I still have my orignal car, a Firebird, from 1976. I am sure the C8 is plenty refined for me as a base unit, more capable than I am. Today I have the feeling a recorder is almost a necessity. Growing leary.
