Default Check engine light question.

Car has basically been sitting for 3 days. We drive it to our new house and left it in the driveway for movers. That night we pulled it in the garage and it’s been sitting two days. I just went to pull it out in the drive way and immediately had a check engine light and the side intake fans were running I’m assuming full speed. I’ve never even heard them before really but this time sounded like a vacuum and could feel the air pull if I placed my hand in front of them. I checked all fluids and temps and drove it around the block and it seems to be running ok. The oil pressure seemed lower than I’ve ever seen it though at times in the mid to high 20s.

Just looking for help with next course of action. It’s going to the dealer soon anyway for other warranty work. Just curious if I can drive it to them or if I need a tow.

Thanks. Oh 2022 with barley 1k miles on it by the way.

If the check engine light is not blinking, it is OK to drive the car in for service.

Do you have OnStar? If so, you can press the button and ask them if any codes have been recorded. Many auto parts stores will let you check out a code reader that you can plug into the ODB port to check for codes. But I wouldn't drive it with the fans running all the time until you figure out what it is. If it has to go to the dealer, call them and arrange a flatbed tow truck.

I noticed my side vent fans running one day after coming back from a normal back roads drive. Never noticed a CEL but there's so much stuff on that display I might have missed it. Never happened again. Anyone know what turns them on?

I would imagine that they are thermostat or software controlled. Sometimes when I would go out to the garage I would hear the afterblow feature operating on my C6. Normal operating procedure

I googled a little after my post and there are quite a few things that can cause them to run at full speed. When I started the car back up to pull it into the garage I still had the CEL but the fans were operating normally. I’m hoping what ever was messed up is ok now but the CEL just needs to be cleared.

After a few driving trips without the same issue, the CEL will clear on its own.

The fans on my C8 run for a few minutes every time I pull it into my garage. I think it has a lot to do with the road that leads to my house. It’s all up hill and wide open so I usually get her up past the C note for a few miles. When possible I will let her idle for a few minutes to cool down but most times the fans run.
I have never had my check engine light come on but that doesn’t stop me from opening the trunk and checking the engine every now and them.

That would be great. I’d like to at least know what the code was but I don’t have time to take it anywhere right now. When I do it will be to the dealer for the other warranty work. I have an OBD MX but it’s older and doesn’t work with my iPhones. I used to run it in another car on a google nexus. If my dad shows up today I’m going to get torque on his android and see what it is hopefully.

I had to pull it out of the garage again today for some more organizing and unpacking. CEL still on but fans are back to operating normally for a cold car.

Thanks for all the feedback, suggestions, and help. I will keep everyone updated.

Still no chance to visit the dealer hopefully this upcoming week. As feared pulling the car out of the garage another time since my last post resulted in the light being gone. Not that I wanted a problem, was just curious of the reason for the code to begin with.

Until next time!

Yep, mine is similar. Have a 3/4-mile road near the house with farm fields on both side! Also frequently hit triple digits. In addition, when I leave the 4-lane divided highway in front of our rural 25 mph road I will often apply the brakes aggressively before turning, so cars (RVs and trucks) don't have to slow for me (and it's fun.) DCT downshifts thru several gears, rev matching each. Great sound! Our house is 2 miles down and I drive slow but fans on both rear fenders often run for ~5 minutes when I park in the garage.

Nothing obvious in the coolant, trans or engine oil temp, which I have displayed on the left of the dash. All around 180 F even on hot days.
