And if that, you'll have no OnStar decision to make. GM is mandating 3 years of On Star and adding the service and $1500 to the invoice price of every C8. Indeed the entire lineup Cadillac, Buick, Chevy, GMC. It is deemed a required option. A double entendre. Know this Big Brother has that power. Having said that. No you don't need it. It does little that an iPhone with ioS 16 doesn't do. Even my Apple Watch is comparable to On Star capabilities. My Series 8 watch even has crash monitoring with auto dial 911.
Beginning September 1st, Chevrolet is now making mandatory a three-year subscription to the OnStar application for everyone buying a 2023 Corvette Stingray or Z06.
The cost of the subscription is $300, and the app includes the ability to remote start, receive vehicle diagnostics, and more. This is a limited version of the OnStar app and doesn’t include the ability to make calls or get turn-by-turn directions.
In August, GM started adding a three-year subscription to OnStar and Connected Services for $1,500 to all Buicks and GMCs. While it’s called an option, there is no way to opt-out of it other than not using it.
Since GM owns OnStar it seems right that the make it mandatory. Have to protect the brand since not very many folks are voluntarily purchasing subscriptions.

Do you get the Crash Protection with the mandatory subscription? On the OnStar web site the cheapest subscription that includes the Automatic Crash Response is the Safety and Security Plan for 29.99 a month. So the regular price for that plan, for three years would be 1079.64. Here is what the Chevy web site is included as a standard feature now for the 2023 Stingray. I do not know if this is what is included for the 300 dollar increase in price, but I do know that the "three years of remote access" to start and stop the car, etc. was not included with my 2021 Stingray. So, it is a new "feature"

Note: When a severe car crash is detected, Crash Detection won’t override any existing emergency calls placed by other means.

If you have CarPlay or Apple Watch
If your iPhone has Crash Detection turned on and is connected to your vehicle through CarPlay, the Crash Detection features (dialing emergency services) will go through your iPhone.
If you’re wearing your Apple Watch at the time of the event, dialing emergency services will be placed by iPhone but Crash Detection features will be routed through Apple Watch.
