I like the carbon fiber engine appearance package (left and right covers), but they were pretty expensive, and the engine appearance package is no longer available (right?) so what is a good alternative?
I'm thinking machined billet aluminum covers, out of 1/4" aluminum. I just happen to have a CNC milling machine and this sounds like the perfect winter project.
My car will be here in March, so I have all winter to work on this. I would like to start planning and designing right now, but I don't have a car to measure.
If someone would be interested in making an accurate template for each side, I could start working on a design and be ready to confirm the fit, and machine parts when I get a car.
If you can help me out, I can make an extra set for just the price of materials, if you like my design.
Or, if someone in the Portland area could come over, I can make cardboard templates in an hour.
Reply, or send PM if you can help or if you have ideas. Thanks, Larry

Thanks for the photo, that is food for thought. Maybe collectively we can all come up with ideas that turn into a great new shape.
Those are cool, that's one style, we need more for comparison and inspiration. It looks like they lay on top of the body panels instead of sitting down flush.
I'm not trying to bash your covers, they do have a bold and strong look, I'm just talking about design features, and how can I take it to the next level? What is the next level.?
I'm thinking of something that looks like a hi-tech race car. Machined with some depth to it. Smaller slots that make a pattern with some cooling fins. A real functional look.
The beginning of a good design starts with ideas. There are none that are bad. Some make you imagine new concepts.
Thanks for sharing, that's how American innovation starts.
Holy Crap, Those aluminum struts are awesome. That detail looks great. I was thinking of making some out of carbon fiber, but this looks better and I don't have to make a mold.
Have you thought about buying a used factory engine cover for your template? I'm sure you'll find one in the "Parts for Sale" section.
Thanks, I did buy an engine cover. I am measuring that to make a totally original design out of carbon fiber.
You are right, my original post calls them engine covers. I will change that.
What I am looking for are the dimensions of the engine appearance package covers left and.right. I want to make covers that will drop down in the side recess left and right.
That is really beautiful and a clean look. It looks like everything fits together perfectly. How much does all of that carbon cost.? I'm always trying to make something to save money, and usually end up spending more.
The C8 looks great exterior and interior, but it looks like they ran out of design time with the engine compartment. These carbon panels give it the finished look. It's done, does not need anything else.

I do have the OEM Engine Appearance package…but everything else ran about $1500 from AGM (CF panels and shock towers) plus $700 from American Hydro for the engine cover.

That is actually pretty reasonable for side and back carbon fiber panels. Usually when I see carbon fiber parts, the cost is 3X what I think it should be. I will look into that. That is such a high end look. Thanks for sharing.
