I have used it. Since my wife and I both have cell phones, we sometimes set up Waze on one, and Maps on the other - to verify directions. And then use the built in Nav system as well. I rely mostly on Waze, so my experience with Maps directions is much less, but I have not noticed any issues with it.
for the most part i use navigation on my phone through apple car play. there have been a few time where i used the built in navigation, but only when i was somewhere with little to no service and i couldn't pull it up on the phone. and it was mostly just to see the bends in the mountain road ahead, not for actually getting anywhere.
I use it all the time just like I use the navigation in my 2020 Silverado 2500HD and my wife's 2020 Denali. I drive mostly in rural and suburban areas and the GM Navigation systems work just fine for me.
The built-in Nav works pretty well, but (1) voice control sucks. I tested it quite extensively when I first got the car. I'm mid-atlantic born and bred, no weird accents. Google, Alexa and Siri understand me fine. The C8 understands me almost never. Oddly, though, one of the few times the Nav got it right was when I mis-pronounced the name of an Italian restaurant. Go figure. And (2), it doesn't have the massive knowledge base that Google Maps does. Where I can say "Joe's Pizza, Arlington VA" in Google, I probably need to enter an address in the C8's Nav. A lot less convenient.
For me, Google Maps or Waze viewed on the car's screen through Android Auto is far better most of the time. The advantage of the built-in is that if you're completely out of cell phone coverage, you can use it to create a route when Android and Apple won't work.

you're telling me all I have to do to get it to work is say "yee haw corvette show me the way to macdawnulds" in a southern sccent? Wtf wish they mentioned that in the owners manual.

Just don’t talk to people like you do in Illinois. I lived there not too far from where you live for over a decade. I was so happy when I got away.
FYI, Alexa understands you a lot better than than the OEM nav and sends the destination to the OEM nav. But you need to use your phone's hotspot for the Alexa app in the car to work unless you subscribe to the OnStar data.
