I was speaking with the F&I guy yesterday at the big 10 store where my C8 will be delivered in a few weeks.
He related a story about a customer who ordered a car and discovered he was a bit too old to get in and out of it.
The store bought it back from him at $7,500 over sticker knowing they could then resell it for even more.
My brother in law took his 10 month old C8 into his local dealership ( where he did NOT buy it from ), last year, they paid him $12k more than the sticker price that he paid. It was a 1LT ....... he's since decided he wants another one and that same dealer has a small deposit one one at sticker for him........ Oh, by the way, he's 85 years old. He's owned at least 35 Vettes in his lifetime. Still has a C6 now that he has kept longer than any other car.
I totaled a clean, low mileage, 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk in October of '21 - insurance company paid me replacement value: $9,000 more than I paid for the car.
And I sold my '19 C7 1LT for more than I paid for it....
While the story is logical, it was probably made up. I rarely engage anyone involved in the retail sale of automobiles and won't even ask them the store's hours since that would betray the fact that I am too dumb to know that anything they say is either a lie or in their own self-interest.
The guy could have probably sold it for $15K over sticker if he had gone to Carvana, CarMax or KBB.com instead of his local dealer. He got taken advantage of.
But don't assume a C8 you buy new today will hold it's value the same way. Resale prices look like they may be dropping a bit.
