So we have a small Amish community in the area. Nice people and we don't mind being watchful for and sharing the road with their horse drawn buggies.
Today as I went past a farm house 6 men with a team and work wagon were just loading up. One of the younger ones upon seeing my C8 gave me a thumbs up!!
Not sure how I should feel about that... I mean I'm flattered, but something just seems wrong about it....
Just because they chose not to take part in modern things, doesn't mean they can't like or appreciate certain aspects of them. It's kind of like how I feel about tattoos, for example. I really appreciate ones that are well done, but I don't have any interest in getting my own.
Watch out for Jebediah, he might get one of those two horsepower buggies and try and race you at a light.
or who knows maybe it was just whistling diesel in disguise. He's the one you really need to watch out for at the light.

I agree nice folks. Our R&D Lab in NE OH conducted 4 day training courses about once/month. Was always looking for a good place for our Thursday night wrap up dinner. We found an Amish facility that served great simple food family style,. Folks loved it.
BUT recall driving my 260Z on the back roads from where we were on Lake Erie to Columbus. Went through Amish county. Came up over a hill and there was a big triangle on a horse drawn buggy! Thankfully Z was light and had good brakes!
Many years ago I lived in Illinois and there were communities of Amish. Some of them were carpenters. I saw them carrying cabinets into a new house in my neighborhood.
That did not surprise me, but when I looked for a horse and carriage, instead I saw a Chevy Van that said Amish Cabinets on the door.
I'm not sure if they were the real deal, but they had the hats, the clothes, and ZZ Top beards.
Having lived most of my life in PA we had Amish all over the state. Actually my wife and I would go out to Lancaster many times and I remember stopping one time at an Amish shop and we picked out a furniture piece that they had made. It was unfinished at the time and when I got home I stained it and we used it for years. The reason I added this was it fit perfectly in the back of my 99 C5 coupe. The man at the store said," do you think it'll fit?" I told him, it'll be tight but that's a Corvette. He smiled and said, "I know." They're among the most efficient farmers on the planet and I respect them and since my moms family were "Pennsylvania Dutch" they really know how to cook and eat too!
Recently our local newspaper here in Southern Maryland had an article and PSA about being on the lookout for Amish horse and buggy traffic. ."Amish typically hold weddings from the end of October through December. Wedding season starts after the harvest is finished and runs until the severe weather sets it. Wedding celebrations traditionally take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays." Please drive carefully.
We lived in Central Illinois from 2000-2002. There was an Amish town near us. They were very primitive. They had stores to sell their goods to people but they only used electricity for lighting. Cash only. Most of their land was farmland and I was amazed at the size of the horses they used to pull plows. No tractors for many acres of land. While they appreciated us buying goods from them in their town it was obvious from the looks we got they didn’t want us near their farms.

You're not far from my friends in Hollywood MD. Great place.

I dunno. There were times when I'd take one of my cars, usually the orange vette with the top down, and on a lonely country road right next to some Amish farms, I'd park it just barely off the road--nothing going in either direction. Sit back and just listen to quietude. Buggies might pass by, horse and wagon in the fields, etc. No one thought to give me a bad "look" altho they certainly knew I was there.
