Default Real basic NPP question

I'm in the market for a C8. I thought that I could tell if the car has the NPP select-able performance exhaust by seeing the steering wheel wheel and the "Z" button. But now it appears that all have the button. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I want to be able to see way to determine if the car has the performance exhaust. Thanks in advance for any assistance..... Please school me.

Assuming you already know that the car is not a Z51 (since all Z51s have NPP), if you are able to get in/start the car, go to the menus to see if exhaust is a selectable option in the personalization menu.

The NPP exhaust has a valve by the muffler on the tube to the outer tip. You'll have to look from underneath to see it.
If you have the VIN you can use a VIN decoder.

I'd ask the seller. But that's just me. Eh?

So.... the Z button on the steering wheel is not just for the NPP? Does it do more?

the Z button puts the car into Z mode. Z mode is customizable to set up the steering, braking, exhaust, transmission, and suspension however you want.

A VIN Decoder will not tell you if a non-Z51 has NPP or not. However, it will be on the window sticker. There are a number of sites on the internet where you can use the VIN to acquire a window sticker. Most require payment of some sort, and some may not be trustworthy. The easiest way is to ask a dealer to look it up for you.

I'm not sure I'd trust the seller, but if you have an opportunity to hear the car running, you can turn the mode selection dial from Tour to Track, and you will hear a noticeable increase in volume even at idle if it has NPP.

All C8s have Z mode, but without NPP, it won't change the exhaust sound. Similarly, without MSRC, neither ZMode, nor any of the standard modes will change the suspension.

I thought that too, but in another thread, I believe a forum member said that his non-NPP car also has this slider bar for "engine sound", and supported it with some photos of the menu. Perhaps a non-NPP owner can chime in and confirm (or not). I can only speculate on what it would control - but the 2023 manual says it controls "engine volume". Based on the Service Manual, the C8 has a feature called Engine Sound Enhancement. On the Bose site, they indicate that C8s with the 14 speaker system have Engine Harmonic Enhancement. The Bose description of the function is consistent with the Service Manual description of the function. So, perhaps engine sound can control the volume of this "enhancement" even without the NPP. But, in the context of this thread, this selection may appear in the menu of non-NPP cars.

For a car on a lot, reach up from under a rear corner and "Feel" if the outer exhaust pipe near the muffler has an NPP valve actuator. Suggest ONLY if the car has not been running!

My bad, I thought the VIN decoder provided the exhaust type.

This worked for me to get a PDF of the window sticker, perhaps it will work for the OP if he has the VIN:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...e-the-vin.html

If the OP still has access to the car he can read the QR code on the door jamb to pull the RPO codes. I'm pretty sure the exhaust system type is listed in the RPO codes.

I didn't mean to suggest that the seller was an untrustworthy individual. What I meant is that a lot of very honest folks aren't very well informed with regard to how their cars are equipped. Our C8 is primarily my wife's car, and she would have no clue.

This worked for me to get the window sticker on our non-Z51 w/NPP. See the "Options & Pricing" section, and you will see "Performance Exhaust."

Copy and paste the last link in quotes in post #1 (minus quotes) into your browser, and type in the VIN to replace the words "your VIN goes here." The hotlink in that post does not work.

Scan the QR code on the driver's side door. That's the RPO list for the car, NPP is the RPO code you're looking for.
