As I mentioned in post 8, my update completed successfully. However, once I initiated it, I walked away - paid no attention to it while the updated was in progress. When I checked again, maybe an hour later give or take, the car was completely off. And, when I started it, it was a normal start, with no indication that anything happened. I had to check update history to see that the update had been installed. My question is, does the car display anything while the update is in progress?

yes the radio screen shows the update installing just like if you were installing a PC update
So I took a chance at updating again today. Same result, update failed and car won't start. This time I had a real battery charger hooked up to it and i don't think the update even got as far as it did the first time. Im going to leave it on the charger a little longer and after about an hour I'll try to start again.
My 2023 c8 coupe also received an Ota update today (12/17).
I didn’t see a notice of update on the screen but based on these postings I checked the settings screen for pending updates and one was there.
An OTA pop up one day last week and I decided to wait. It never popped again. I read somewhere that the temperature and a low battery could cause this. So I plugged in the battery tender until it was fully charged. On the next start the OTA popped up and the update was completed w/o any problems.
