Ceramic = easier to wash and keep clean

PPF = protects against rock chips

Prolly do a front bra PPF and call it a day

What I did with Zero regrets.

Go with PPF front half (did thicker PPF on front bumper and rockers) of car including rockers.

Ceramic the rest wheels included and why not while your at it ceramic as well over the PPF.

Plus hand wash, "Only". 24 months later my paint is as new as on day 1 without a swirl mark to be found.

I did full ceramic on the car for easier washing/debris and did PPF on the front and mirrors for rocks. I think this is the ideal setup.

I’d get a ‘track pack’ PPF and then ceramic it myself.

Ceramic is so effing easy to do. I just did my 5 year old black GLE350. The hard part is to prep it, but that’s easy, DA polisher to de swirl then really polish, wash it with special soap, wash it again. IPA wipe, then next day, IPA wipe again, then the ceramic goes on so easy.

ppf can be ceramic-ed too, I think it’s a slightly different product than one just for paint.

a new car can be done in one day, simple and cheap $100. A DIY non professional product might last 2 years, a pro would be longer. It works on glass almost like rainx.

every few weeks use a ceramic booster detail spray after you wash and use a ceramic booster wash. Really easy.

Curious what you were "not impressed" with about PPF?

We have these threads every few weeks or so, to me PPF is a no brainer. You should at the very least have the front 1/3 done since that is the most susceptible to rock chips. I did a Track Pack, which to me is the next logical step up. Its usually only a little more than full front coverage, but includes a lot more coverage that is more important to be protected, like the A pillar and rocker panels.

Ceramic is strictly for ease of washing. For a black car, yea, it's also a no brainer. But it is by no means a requirement. I still have not had ceramic done on my C8, but I will eventually. For now I have just been washing it normally and using a spray booster. Rapid Blue is pretty forgiving and easy to keep clean. Black is not. You will like having ceramic on it, whether you pay to have it done, or DIY.

IMO, I go full PPF if black as my choice - because the great thing about PPF on a black car is permanent no swirl marks ..

Some thoughts on PPF vs Ceramic: https://budgetplan1.wordpress.com/pp...ramic-coating/

Having done coatings to death and enjoyed their benefits, PPF + ceramic just suits our needs best for our cars that are daily drivers from March thru December (one of them is now a year-round daily driver).

Garage queen that comes out on sunny Sunday’s for a few miles…PPF may be overkill but if you drive the car frequently and are bothered by chips and such, PPF is the way to go.

Everyone has their own wants & needs so no universal best approach…YMMV.

So I will chime in as well. I just got my black c 8 about two weeks ago. Drove it from the dealer to the tire shop to put on my rims. What a shine on that black car it looks so good. Too good to be having rock chips on the vehicle. I have been checking and in the spring I will be doing PPF/ track package and ceramic coating. My C 7 was a garage queen and it was white. My C8 may be the same but no way can I take a chance to drive this good looking car and get a rock chip on it. I just would not be able to look at it. Then how much would it cost to fix a chip and wonder will the paint match up. We all spent a nice (bag $) for our C8 why not protect it. But to each his own. Good Luck.

My C8 (and both Mercs) got full Ceramic and clear bra (PPF) on the front and other vulnerable places.

I can highly recommend Watershed in Simi Valley….David has done 7 cars for me from my 2017 Tacoma, 3 911s, Macan, SLK55 AMG, and my C8. He does Ceramics as well and currently uses Revivfy which is on my C8 and is the best coating I’ve had (CTechniq, Ceramic Pro). His attention to detail brings many from the Hollywood Hills area. Photos are from May 2021 two days after my C8 was delivered and the paint still looks the same today…..I’ve never washed it.

This is exactly what I did with my C8 and I had the same results. Mine has a beautiful shine. Make sure you get a paint correction before the ceramic coating (even brand new cars need this to remove any swirls and micro-scratches). The hand washing is also a big part of keeping the finish perfect.
