My car was built today, and I'm taking museum delivery next month. I'm 8 hours away and need to plan my trip. I'd like to break up the drive and mix in a stop for a bourbon tour on the way there. Any recommendations for distilleries and hotels near them?
We only had the afternoon on delivery day to visit a distillery before the next day’s trip home. Went to Dueling Grounds Distillery in Franklin, which is about 26 miles south of BG on I-65. I’m not a whiskey drinker, but we ordered a flight and the owner was on site to steer us through the different bourbons. Very informative and we learned a lot about how bourbon is made. Their flagship bourbon cost $50 a bottle.
Search Kentucky Bourbon Trail and also Kentucky Distilleries.
The Kentucky Bourbon Trail is the name of a program sponsored by the Kentucky Distillers' Association to promote the Bourbon whiskey industry in Kentucky. The Bourbon Trail includes certain distilleries, maybe they have paid, not sure. You could start a plan with that and or look at the map of distilleries to add to it or make your own plan from scratch.
So far Woodford distillery is probably the best one to visit as fas as history. My next favorite is the new Castle and Key distillery that opened for its ambiance and hangout on property atmosphere and then my next favorite was Four Roses and Jack Daniels.
No. I did the Jack Daniels tour about 10 years ago. They are proud to show off their cave next to the distillery and the supposedly pure cave water they make their whiskey from. The tour guide didn’t like me pointing out the ducks in the pond between the cave and the distillery and me asking if they provided the secret ingredient. Jeez, all distilleries treat their water no mater the source. Heck, Canadian Club is next to the Detroit River which is lined with factories and their whiskey is OK. Anyways, as Jack Daniels is out of the way in Tennessee, stick to the bourbons in Kentucky for a much better whiskey. Visit the Buffalo Trace Distillery near Frankfort and you have a good chance of purchasing one of their hard to find bourbons such as Blantons or EH Taylor.

Since you're heading to Bowling Green from Philadelphia, I suggest you consider Bardstown. There are several craft bourbon (and major brand) distilleries there. We visited there during our September 2020 NCM delivery:
Did just this in June. Stayed at the Hyatt in Louisville for a couple days. Covered garage in a convenient location. Got my break in mileage done driving to distilleries. Visited 19 in 3 days. Just the gift shops and grounds as the tours are mostly the same.
