Default Potentially dead battery

I park my C8 for 6 1/2 months out of the year, from October to May. I leave it under it's cover in my front garage with the factory C8 battery maintainer plugged in. I've done this for the last 2 years with nary a problem. I'm 1000 miles away in my other home and have my daughter-in-law check the house once a month along with my 4 vehicles that have battery tenders hooked up. She just checked the house and there were a yellow and red light glowing on the C8's tender. She had left here phone at home so all I have is her description of what she saw. She is not car savvy in the least. I fully expect to return to a car with a dead battery. Both C8s keys are here with me. If the battery is in fact dead then after being so for 4 or 5 months I fully expect it to be sulfated requiring replacement. The car is a 2020 and will be 2 years 8 months old by the time I return. I'll dump the factory C8 battery maintainer and buy a quality "Battery Tender" brand maintainer. In all the years, in all my different vehicles, I've never had a problem with the Battery Tender brand. I guess I'll be using the in-the-fob emergency key, grab a set of pliers and tug on the emergency frunk opening wire under the dash to the left of the steering column at the floorboard to gain battery access...

Having said all this, what's the warranty on the battery? I did a web and forum search and couldn't find a definitive answer on the battery's warranty. More than likely I'll have to buy one out of pocket.

I'd have her unplug the charger from the wall and then plug it back in. Maybe the charger just needs to be reset.

You can access the appropriate Warranty Manual from the Chevy web site. Here is an example:

https://www.chevrolet.com/bypass/pcf...20JUL17_3P.pdf

The way I read it, everything is covered by the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty unless it is specifically excluded. I searched the manual on "battery" and I cannot find anywhere it says it is excluded. Tires are covered, but are pro-rated by mileage and that is specific. No such information on the battery though. That's just my reading. I would take it to a dealer to find out.

Yes, it could be that the charger plug just needs to be reinserted - every once in a while the same thing happens to my C7 as I think I move the cord slightly when cleaning the car and the connection comes loose.

I just talked with my son, who's very car savvy. He's going to go by and unplug and re-plug the tender back in.

Therein lies the problem, sort of a catch 22. If the battery is in fact dead and sulfated jumping it won't be possible and I won't be able to drive it to the dealer. I WILL NOT have it towed simply to have it checked and "maybe" have the dealer warranty a battery replacement. I would sooner just foot the bill and replace the battery myself.

He would definitely do it for me but I won't ask him. He's very busy with his full time job in addition to running his HVAC business. I was reluctant to even have him just go to the house to unplug and plug the tender back in.

I would rather look at my own vehicle when circumstances permit. If the maintainer doesn't reset should it be left unplugged?

I would try just repulging the charger I just had to replace the battery on my Silverado took next to nothing to get it to start Battery is covered if under 36 months you don't want to buy a new one if your covered batteries now are ridiculous in price not like years ago.

Make sure the plug is not on a GFI circuit. I had a GFI trip while my tender was connected.

If the breaker/GFI receptacle tripped then I wouldn't have the lights illuminating. They aren't battery powered.

Do you have the OnStar diagnostic reports (the one you get for free)? It will alert you to a low battery condition. And if you signed up for the basic service for a month you would be able to remotely unlock your car from the app if there is enough capacity in the battery.

As mentioned above the cigarette charger loosening up is a typical problem especially if it wasn't fully inserted initially. The small springs on the side of the plug seem to be part of the problem.

By the way the Ctek brand of battery charges are excellent products. The GM version is the most basic trickle charger they offer but is still an excellent charger. I have three of them running right now. One of those is over 10 years old with no problems.

I have had two of the Battery Tender brand chargers fail, one resulting in a dead battery.

The CTEK units will light up. They will draw current from the battery and the lights will be on even if the wall outlet is dead. This may not be your issue, but it is what happened to me. The GM tender is a CTEK.
