These little lights are awsome for lighing the bay but
A) the batteries run down in a couple months even if not used.
B) they are hard to change whithout dropping them in the bay.
So I took the batteries out, direct soldered wires to the contacts and installed a 3x AA battery pack with switch.
Even though the pack is 4.5 volts they are brigher than with the 2x 3 volt coin batteries. And I can turn it off completely when not in use.
I mounted the lights with super sticky double sided tape and a bead of adhesive. Sanded down the back flat for better grip. Made it though the Texas summer no issues.
I had those for a little while before the heat eventually got to them in one way or another. They either stopped working correctly (not responding to the remote or erratically changing color / brightness) or were hanging on for dear life to the lid eventually. It’s a nice solution for $15 but for the future I’m just going to pony up the extra money to hard wire and epoxy something into the engine compartment. I kinda miss the cheap solution though.

I don't think its the heat. That's exactly what happens when the batteries get low. You can turn them on but then they don't respond to the remote. And the batteries that come with them don't last long. Even if you don't use them they are "listening" for the remote so they draw power. This solution should fix that.
I was going to add LED lights to the engine bay but realized I really don’t drive that much at night.
Lol I realized the same thing, actually have never drove mine at night that I can think of but I guess very early AM would count since ti was still a little dark out.
