My C8 etc sustained damage in local bank hit and run incident lat week. This has not made my day. Yes I caught the guy and it turned out to be a very ugly racial incident. The front clip in my opinion most likely needs to be replaced. Now here's the real problem in my mind and it concerns Bowling Green. It is my understanding that obtaining this part in addition to the left front quarter panel involves approximately a 4-5 month wait because of supply chain issues, etc. The thought of this does not make my day.. Any comments from forum members would be appreciated. I am very distraught! While I am at it let me also ask---Will the factory prepaint parts upon request. Another question. What is your experience with non-OEM parts in situations such as this. Again, I would really appreciate your opinions and experiences.
Very sorry for your situation. Highly doubt any non OEM parts available for body damage repair. IF the offender has insurance they should provide a rental car. It isn’t going to be a C8. If that insurance company is the lizard they will screw you every way possible on the rental car. They will recommend their contracted body shop. You refuse that and pick your own shop and when they determine the repair is taking too long they will cancel the rental car. There is no determined schedule on how long the repair will take. The assigned representative makes that arbitrary decision.
My thought is get ready to be without your car for several months. UNLESS there is a C8 graveyard with the body panels you need. Personally, for expediting the repair, I would accept such panels as they are OEM.
Had the front end damaged on my C8 on 10/11/21. Needed a headlight assembly, driver quarter panel, the nose, and a ton of other parts. Total bill was about 17k.
I was worried about parts availability, but I had the car back and fixed with all new oem parts on 12/17/21.
Yeah i'm not sure how its a racial issue someone hitting a car. I would expect a decent bit of time to get it repaired (2 weeks-6 months) and just expect the worst and pray for the best.
Replacement parts do not come from the Bowling Green factory. They do not have any extra parts. They only have parts for the assembly plant, and they paint what they need for the cars they are building.
Any fender or body panels ordered from a Chevrolet dealer will be shipped from a GM distribution center to your dealer.
Likewise, they will not be painted. The factory does not have a stock of painted parts ready for sale.
You, or your body shop has to order parts from a Chevrolet dealer. They will arrive unpainted. This is how they have always done business. The only exception is that you may be able to order a spoiler painted body color.
front end damage---My thanks to all those who have replied. Not to brag, but my car was pristine--as in on the green at Pebble Beach pristine. I am not at all racially prejudiced. The guy was black and in his 20s. My car was stationary in a bank parking lot and he backed into me, and I hit my horn, but could not back up fast enough. 30% of people here in Calif (Sacramento to be precise) have no insurance and he was one of them. I asked for his name and driver's license, but he refused. He then tried to block his license plate so I could not get the plate number. Needless to say things then got very tense and physical, but I did not hit him even though I sure thought about it. I did get the number and then he took off. The highway patrol immediately responded, ran the plate, and said they were going to pay him a call and have a "chat." I pick up the report tomorrow. Additionally, the bank security cameras recorded everything, but only the police can view them I was told. I have USAA insurance, and I am reasonably ok with them (so far).
In the Sacramento metro area there appears to be only one shop that is certified by GM and handles the mid engine Corvette. This car is a whole different animal than previous Corvettes. I belong to two local
Corvette clubs and have spoken with many Corvette folks and the reviews are all very positive (Kniesels Collision). I have been on this forum for many years, and I am one of you. To me, this is not merely a car; It my rembrandt on wheels so to speak and a significant part of my life. I am extremely upset. I do not care where the parts come from, but they sure as hell better be damn near perfect. Again, I am aware of the parts situation with GM and Bowling Green, but has anyone on the forum had recent experience getting parts from them? The situation gets even worse. The shop tells me the earliest they can schedule my car is towards the end of March. A 5 month wait brings us to the beginning of August. My car has a Suntek film on it (luminal) that can only be placed after a 30 day minimum period to all the paint to completely dry. and then the ceramic coating can be replaced. Ad up the math folks and it does not look good--Very depressing.
Try contacting Folsom Chevrolet for a bodyshop recommendation. I had C7 work done at the GM certified bodyshop they use and they should also be able to work on the C8. I believe there is more than one GM certified bodyshop in the Sacramento area.

So the front bumper cover and the front fenders aren't on backorder at the moment. GM warehouses show plenty on hand it seems.
No parts come from Bowling Green as far as replacement parts go. No parts can be painted by GM via Bowling Green. The body shop orders the parts via a GM dealer, and the dealer gets the parts via the GM CCA distribution network. They are all new parts and would come in an ELPO primer, nothing more. Its up to the collision shop to paint them and obviously install them.

So let's get this straight, you back into someone else's car, destroy the front end, then start tossing racial slurs at the person you hit, and bow up on them, then you jump in your car and run off.
In CA, there is no DA that will press any charges on this dude. You will be 100% paying this out of your own insurance, pocket, deductible, etc.
I agree your best bet if you want something fast is to call stinger auto, or look through CoPart. As others have indicated though, the SMC panels are made by another manufacturer and your GM/Chevrolet or other body shop should be able to order them and get them painted to match.
Hopefully no other damage is hidden underneath.
USAA should take care of you. I have used them for many decades now and I wouldn't switch to a cheaper insurance because it is at times like this where the "lizard" makes you regret ever switching.
You also have the dealer in Rio Vista, Abel Chev. which is well known on here that could give you some advice on shops that are certified to work on the C8. Considering Abelr does some road racing, I suspect they hear about someone being in an accident on the track, as well as having an "incident" elsewhere. Worth a call. I surely can understand your being upset. Good luck to you.
USAA is good, but on things like this, you MUST escalate and talk to a manager than has been with them in excess of 15 years to handled properly and fairly. This is not a run of the mill claim. If that other party does not have insurance, all of this will be through USAA so no suing for loss of use of a Game Changer if it takes more than a few weeks.. Consider looking at the added value option if you do not already have it.
That’s a good call out on Stricker Auto. Likely they may have your exact color parts, and you could avoid a repaint and stay with factory painted parts. It’s worth a call to them in my opinion
