Default Color selection

I realize color selection is a personal preference but is anyone disappointed with selecting AO? Stuck between it and mist red. Expect to have to make that final decision this week. I have had the metallic reds on 3 Vettes but now leaning toward the AO. I’ve looked at both in shade and sunlight and still struggling. Take rate on the AO is much lower and could affect resale in the future. Input appreciated.

I don't think you will find anyone here admitting that they are disappointed with the color they chose - even if they are. Human nature.

Red Mist is definitely more popular / desired based on production numbers. It sounds like you really love metallic so go with your gut.

2022:
  • Red Mist 3,274
  • Amplify Orange 1,375

That's not even close. Red Mist all the way. But that's just my opinion.

If a unique color appeals more to you, then AO is probably for you. RM is a good, very popular choice. It is a metallic paint color with lots of depth and stands out in a crowd. Both have the same $995. upcharge for 2023. Good luck with your choice!

@proeagles is right, there is no comparison. He just misspelled "Amplify Orange".

I've lost count of the number of times I've heard some variation "I don't understand why I don't see more of that color!" Or the people who just stop dead in parking lots and admire it and give thumbs up. Not that I mind. The lower take rate means that in the year I've owned her mine is the only AO C8 I've ever seen, and I've seen the entire rainbow including Zeus Bronze and Caffeine a couple times.

Red Mist is a great color, really nice and vibrant red. If you like it, get it. For me, there is zero disappointment in AO ownership or its reception. While the butterflies have died down in a year, I'm still constantly looking back at the car walking away or going out to the garage and smiling like a kid over how exotic it looks and how much it brings out the lines of the car.

Take rate on the AO is much lower and could affect resale in the future. Input appreciated.
It might, which could be a positive or a negative. In a sea of white, black and red you'll probably have a larger pool of buyers with a safe color. But you'll also have more selling competition. Personally i think that half the attention my car gets is simply because of how strikingly different the color makes it. Before AO pictures were released I was ready to settle for a black car. I paid a premium to get the color in 2022, and a buyer like me would pay a premium to get it in the future.

And just because we can always use more car pr0n:

Gotta go with Red Mist or you will grow tired of looking at that Orange everyday after a month or so.

Unless someone else is paying for it and has a preference, why not just choose the color you like best?

At car shows last summer, I noticed that most people walk right by Orange, White, Black, Silver, and stop to look at Red Mist cars.
That color is brilliant. Orange looks like a traffic cone.

most people here prefer the RMM but you also have to take in to account that most people here are, let’s say mature lol I think AO it’s a great color and if fits the style of the C8 better but it’s also a younger color in my opinion it will not hurt resale value and I think it could be more desirable later in a couple of years because the person looking for one used it will probably be a younger person if it was my choice between those two I will take the AO over RMM every day to me that color fits better a Cadillac

True story. My boss in the 80s owned an orange ti BMW. Never failed, every Halloween someone would place a pumpkin on his roof. Not sure if that helps, hurts or indifferent. I have seen this recently but we live in and around Witch City.

Well, I was all arctic white, until a guy pulled into the golf course yesterday with red mist. I’ve never seen that color before, it was absolutely beautiful. I think I’m going to change to that color. And being a HTC he had the blacked out nacilles it was gorgous.

What's your margin of error for that very scientific survey?

Red mist is the 4th best selling C8 color and amplify orange is the 8th. Is future resale important to you?
I ask because typically many will purchase or settle for red, white, black, silver sportscars even if not their favorite color if other features are favorable, however when you get into the oranges, browns, yellows, greens, purples your pool of potential buyers can drop off a bit.

Facts.
Of course, my arctic white 2022 Stingray is my third arctic white Corvette (a 2009 and 2016 are the two previous ones), so I definitely don't regret my choice of color.

That said, IMHO, AO is a color you have to really want to select it. It is very much a standout color, so if that is what one is looking for, then it is a great choice. I happen to be a bit more subdued when choosing the colors for anything (houses, suits, cars, etc.), so AO is too "loud" for me personally. YMMV.

It is funny that out of the 7 Corvettes I have owned over the years, I had three white, two red, one black, and one silver. I never considered any other color choices.

I like metallics, so for me Red Mist would be the choice between those two. In fact, it was my choice.

I think AO looks great on a cloudy day, but washes out a bit in the sun. Which is sort of odd, because most colors look better in the sun. It's not a bad color, but I personally would prefer to see a deeper or brighter orange.

But it's not going to be my car, so what I like probably shouldn't matter. If you like AO, get it. Change is good.

I like Red Mist but decided against it as it accounts for 30% of C8s in most every shows I attend. It is just too common for me.

I like the red mist in the sunlight, but it looks maroon in the shade and other lighting conditions. They need Mazda Soul Red.

No disappointment here with AO or the metallic orange CCB calipers.
