I have been working in the garage the past 2 days and would hear some noise come from the corvette like a click or such. Well, this afternoon I received an alert on the Chev app on my phone that an update had failed. I had not started the car in several days. I got the keys, started up the car, rolled down the windows, etc. Then I checked the center screen for updates. It went thru a check and said no updates available. But I did notice my Samsung S20 phone was not paired. So, I did the pairing thing and it is now paired. So, GM must have been doing something in the background. Have 21 HTC almost 2 years old. Think I have received 1 update a year ago or so. Oh well, leave well enough alone. Car is on a battery tender all the time when i garage.
Battery health and cold weather are today the biggest issues with OTAs. Battery needs to be 70% State of Charge minimum. Cold weather always affects battery performance. And not being driven as well. One more issue is the download server link. If you have great cell phone coverage always 5 bars you are likely good to go. The phone isn't involved but it can suggest how well you receive satellite data signals at your location. Whether phone or car.
Home/Setting/System/Vehicle Information/Updates you'll find a log of all pending and installed updates.
OTAs are not done in the background. You need to see the announcement on the Info Screen that one is available, press Install Now, and follow the bouncing ball. Or decline if you aren't at home and want to postpone it. OTA lasts for 30 ignition cycles so you have some time to do them. Best to do at home, window down, and check the progress after 5-10 minutes. Should be done by then for sure.
