I use one regularly and a lot of Police cars are still set up with regular radar and are lazy and just set a MPH and leave it on.....that also 90% of the time. My Escort picks of laser too.
Detectors have saved my *** multiple times

Yep, I have my Ka tone set to the most obnoxious one I can pick, whereas my K tone is not nearly as irritating since most K alerts anymore are BSM or other falses (there are still some LE who use it though, so I still pay attention to it if I can't identify it as BSM). While arrows would be nice, personally if I get a Ka alert, I'm pulling into the right lane and slowing down to 5 over until it's gone.

Back in my trucking days I know several drivers that were written speeding tickets in Ohio for 1 MPH over the speed limit!

I got pulled over about 2 months ago the guy didn't zap me he just knew I was speeding (76) He had me I watched as he came up behind me and he touched the back corner of the car then said going a little too fast huh? Yep you got me!, No need to deny it or argue he was a young guy then he said nice car looked at my license asked if I had had any alcohol that day NO SIR OK TAKE IT EASY. Looking back he was standing by the driver's door of his car when I went by he could tell I was going a little too fast I guess because he didn't clock me he let me go. A LUCKY DAY

Az Cops generally give you a 10 mph leeway on the highway ...65 posted and I gen set the cruise at 73...drive by the cops without any issues so far....

No, the ticket was for 6 MPH over. At 2 MPH over, I was given a written warning and sent on my way. The way the guy explained it was if I had gotten stopped again inside of 24 hours, other officers would see the warning and I'd get a citation. I don't know if that was accurate or a scare tactic.

I think he was just bored. Mine was probably the first car he had seen in hours.

Why not drive a Prius?. At 5 to 10 mph over it will get you there just as quickly as a Corvette. Cops can and do issue tickets for speeds of less than 10 over when they feel like it (or are below quota), and there are vast stretches of lightly travelled American highways were you can safely exceed 10 mph over, but still risk a ticket for doing so.

Driving through Kentucky earlier this year, almost everyone was going more than 10 mph over. I was going 14 to 15 over and got passed more than a few times. But "keeping up with traffic" isn't going to get you out of a ticket. Knowing where the cops are will.

That is simply, absolutely, completely untrue. If you believe that, you don't understand anything about how radar signals travel and reflect, or how radar detectors work. What you wrote is true for laser, but not for radar. Stop with the scare tactics.

He knew that without clocking you he'd have a hard time in court. Even experts have a hard time visually telling the different between, say, 65 and 75 mph visually. He might have known you were over the limit, but no way he could [honestly] testify to just how fast you were going.

Yes , now and again I do use the capabilities of the car and I have had my detector save my butt if I get over exuberant. Another thing I haven't seen discussed here is that the better units will also use the GPS and a data base to alert you of fixed speed and red light cameras. I encounter more of those and a quick reminder of the presence is worthwhile, particularly if you are in an unfamiliar town. I got dinged for what I am pretty sure was a marginal "orange" light in heavy traffic with someone else close behind.while out of state. It is hard to challenge if you are two borders away.
