Default Transmission Problems

Well everything seems OK now. the roof rattle has stopped and a new transmission was installed. Finally found a Tech (although 25 miles away, excuse to drive Vette) 28 years Corvette Specialist same Dealership. First time Tech was brought ou to Service Entrance, introduced, given qualifications. After plugging in OBD told I had a "Death Code" and GM requires replacement when that code comes up, Vette not to be driven. After Service Manager called GM found no trannys available and backorder situation . Told probably be couple of weeks. Surprising new tranny arrived 6 days later counting Saturday and Sunday, Service manager amazed quickness and also came directly from Tremec. Found that GM in 2021 said would be building own transmissions. Undoubtably my transmission was one built by Tremec but GM no longer buying. Been about 3 weeks now with display set to track, showing engine and transmission running exact same temperature. Fixed top rattle also. HTC now perfect and ready for summer. Frank

Great that you got the transmission so soon and that it appears to have cured the problems you were having with your car. Hope it stays that way for a long time.

I had a new transmission installed about 6800 miles ago. Car runs as good as new. Don’t forget to have the transmission filter changed at or as close to 7500 miles the car was put back in service. Then change the filter again in 15000 miles from the first transmission filter. Then again in 22500 miles from the date of the new transmission.

also remember your three year transmission filter and fluid change occurs in 36 months from the date of the new transmission.

good luck and enjoy that fabulous corvette. I’m at 22k miles now and still loving this car.

each time a new transmission is installed it’s also important to follow the proper break in procedure for the transmission for 1500 miles.

hope This helps

Just to set the record straight.
Tremec is still making the parts for the C8 (many in Mexico where they are based.) However, prior to the C8 start Tremec built a DCT assembly plant in Michigan. That is where the Tremec Transmissons were being assembled and shipped to BG.

As part of a Canadian Union agreement when GM was closing plants (including Lordstown OH) they agreed to put some manufacturing back in Canada to offset plant closings. This is the latest I found but what was planned was delayed:
"Production on the eight-speed DCT transmission for the C8 Corvette is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2022 at a General Motors factory in Ontario, Canada."

Don't know when it actually started BUT they are buying the same Tremec parts, just assembling there with Canadian workers versus those hired by Tremec in Michigan.

Plan on changing every 7500 miles by setting my trip computer to 7500 and will continue. Question-Dealer said drive normal (a few spirited runs) and probably too late , you mention proper break-in procedure. Put less than 1k so far, what would be proper break-in. Thanks Frank

At 1000 miles make some acceleration runs in lower gears where you are close to the 6600 rpm redline. Hell that's only 35 mph in 1st and 60 mph in 2nd. Do it periodically for FUN! And if a Z51 use the brakes aggressively occasionally or they will start to squeal at low speeds. It's a performance sports car Base or Z51. Use it! I do every day as I leave the stop sign at the end of the rural road I live on.

Far better for the car, engine than driving like a little old man. (PS I'm 80!)

Have to drive aggressively or on Fridays and weekends could wait 20 minutes for a break in traffic!

I do basically the same. Live on active 55 community (I will be 80 mid April). From stoplite after crossing road put in 1st and go to 100mph in little less than qtr mile (Kellum High Sign). Then for 2 days police park on concrete slab ,supposedly watching school but wouldn't hurt their feelings if. I was doing weekly run. So I guess I must be doing proper break-in. Thank for reply Frank

I'm also 80! That road I turn onto from the highway only has farm fields for 3/4 mile. On the way home often do just as you and only lift as it gets to triple digits. Have to see my 10 lb Toy poodle's face as he looks only forward at those speeds!

Most of my 25 to 30 mile trip to town (about only place I drive as little before) is all rural back roads. A number of stop signs, turns and fortunately only farm fields with no homes, people and often no cars. Can have fun.

No longer race and don't Track but have a few safe places to make high "g" turns. Usually take both sides of the road and make a large radius of this turn. Recently decided to stay on my side of the road. Was no traffic as usual and can see over a 1/4 mile so none coming. BUT required a sharper turn than I anticipated! Was surprised how neutral it was when I hit this 1.3 "g" peak!
