Is there such a thing as a quality tow hook that doesn’t break the bank? My car should’ve been built yesterday and would like to have one before it gets here. Thanks

Cars driving around the streets with them on are the last thing I think of as a car that goes tracking.

Your track experience seems strange. I see two to three cars get recovered every track day. Where is this track where nobody every goes off or has a mechanical failure? How do you pass tech inspection with your tow hooks and other random stuff thrown in your trunk?

You get towed off track alot? As I said plan for the worst and do have one but I've never been towed off.

What random stuff are in my trunk? I didn't mention anything random. A tow hook that installs in 15 seconds is what we were discussing

The next thing will be people driving around with painters tape on the front of their car because they can't be bothered to take it off or put it on.

Maybe we should leave the center caps off too because that takes 10 seconds per.

Curious what race organization requires you to have a tow hook installed by the way? SCCA, NASA, Chin, HOD, PCA, ACNA don't.

My "local" track Summit Point now requires them. I know that sometimes other tracks with lots of gravel traps they are mandatory (such as certain orgs that run at Laguna Seca).

At times it's been strongly encouraged, but not mandatory at other tracks I've been to including with some of the orgs you listed.

I run my front all the time because my car (don't run the Corvette at the track) did not come with a location for one, so I had to drill a hole for the install, and the tow hook looks better than a random hole in the front of the car. Not hard to make a plug (it's in the plastic) to fill it, just haven't done so as its not a priority.

Yeah right on.

I'm just giving a little bit of light ribbing on folks that say they have them installed because they track so much.

They take 15 seconds to screw in and out on the c8. The cars that I see with the track hooks installed also tend to have doors that flip up in the air and 10 lb worth of carbon fiber stuck on all over the interior and homemade lights in the engine compartment. And all of that is aok as variety is the spice of life but it's not because we are so busy tracking all the time we had to leave the big, red painted ebay tow hook installed.

CMP doesn't require tow hooks, but every driver's meeting is prefaced with the track, org, nor recovery operator are liable for any damages incurred yanking your car from where is quickest and most convenient. Joe blow operator is not going to wait for you to fumble around pulling plugs/panels and screwing in a tow hook when you've red-flagged the session and prolong ruining every other driver's track time. It's just good etiquette to not be that A-hole. And yeah... My time to R&R is not worth anyone's feelings, and it's one less thing on the preflight checklist.

Driving around on the open road with a tow hook installed is not intended to trigger or offend. But the fact that it does is purely a bonus.
