Default Missing Screws

Not a discussion, just a frustrating story. I picked up my C8 from a dealer far from home three weeks ago. When I got it home, I noticed the edge of the chin spoiler was drooping (Z51) and underneath noticed there were a few bolts missing on the splitter and body panels, and a few others were a little loose and not in all the way. No big deal, things get missed in PDI, I know how to tighten a bolt. GM bolts are cheaper online than a gallon of gas, shipped to your house. Just wanted to know the official part number so I could get the right size for the missing ones. Dealer can't answer that question over the phone (understandably).

That's where the fun began. I stopped in at my local dealer to ask what the part number was. They said we can't tell you without looking at it, we need a minimum four hours to get it on the lift to know for sure. No problem, probably best to have them verify no others are loose anyway.
* Took it in this morning.
* Four hours later it was done, went back to pick it up. Asked the part number in case I ever needed it. They can't tell me. Fine. Shouldn't matter anyway now.
* Got it home, looked underneath. Not only is the screw I initially noticed still missing, another one clearly doesn't match the same head type as the other side. Called back, asked for the part number, still can't give me one. I have to stop back in, and they'll give me the parts.
* Stopped in (fourth dealer trip for this issue), finally talked to the shop manager, who was able to give me the part number in seconds.

Long story short, if anyone else got a car missing splitter/underbody screws, the part numbers you're looking for are 11548270 (T-15) for the spoiler and 11547755 (7 millimeter) for the panels.

M4.2x1.41x20 Multi-Purpose Bolt - GM (11548270) MSRP $8.48 each. Probably cheaper to buy a bunch in bulk at a hardware or auto parts store and replace the existing ones so that they all match and Corvette OCD is satisfied!

The splitter is installed as part of the PDI. So the issue started at the dealer who delivered it to you. They don’t install them so they aren’t damaged when they come off the truck.

There is definitely a pattern with people picking up their C8's from dealers far away from home. Then they complain when a local dealer doesn't treat them like a loyal customer.

Sounds like it's time to find a new dealer to work with!

You know.....I didn't like the way a few of them looked when I removed the lower front panels for my radiator grille guards and never once thought I should ask the dealer. It took 30 seconds to search and find the correct screws on Amazon. I'm just curious why you went through all that run-around for a couple of screws?

The local dealers in question treat you like a piece of garbage by ripping you off on the car to begin with - even if you buy through them, why would they treat you differently? Because they feel bad for ripping you off, or? Shouldn't the dealer provide top-notch service all the way through? Maybe it's time to reconsider the dealer system? It's not like the old days when you could hide the true cost of things from people.

It sounds like his far away dealer treated him like garbage. Too many guys shop price when in fact they should be shopping dealers and if they get the right dealer the price will also be right.

Maybe, but that seems unlikely - looks more like the local dealer did a good job treating him like trash. Maybe instead, they could have treated him well and perhaps made the sale on the next purchase. Isn't repeat business what pays the bills?
