I’ve been thinking of buying a C8 for some time now, but am running into some obstacles and thought some of you could possibly offer advice or suggestions? I figure if I’m going to spend the money on a C8 I’ll order it and get exactly what I want. Trouble is the dealers in the Seattle area are charging a minimum of $10k dealer markup. Needless to say that’s a no-go for me. Going out of state to order won’t work either since I want to trade my existing car in on the purchase. I’ve checked around to see if there’s any cars locally that were even close to what I’ve spec’d out and nothing is. Not looking good C8 wise me thinks…..
I'm in Washington state and I feel your pain. Nobody here would deal with me without a huge markup over MSRP so I ordered mine through Macmulkin and it was an amazing experience! So easy! I did museum delivery too. I had to wait a year but got to order exactly what I wanted at MSRP. The wait times are much shorter now too. So shoot them an email and send them the $2000 deposit and get in line. You can track your waitlist # on their website so you know exactly where you are on it. Like others have said just sell your current car locally. You will get more for it that way too. Good luck and PM me if you have questions. Easiest car purchase I have ever done!!

Just sell your car to Carmax / Carvana or one of the other secondary dealers instead of trading. Super easy.
Buy from MacMulkin and have it delivered locally. Everyone loves MacMulkin.
Sell your other car on Carvana or Vroom or other services. I’ve gotten very solid and competitive bids from these vendors, they pay cash, and it’s low hassle.
I have been able to do 2 trades out of state. Both times I checked the Kelley Blue Book for trade in value with an accurate description, options, and condition, then I asked both dealers if they would agree to the amount I wanted contingent on verification. The distance to the dealers were 400 and 600 miles away. Both deals were done. I requested a detailed sales order for the new car and a form for the estimated value of the trade in prior to providing deposits of $500 and $1,000 from a credit card. Fair deals and happy endings for both parties which I wasn't able to get in my own state at the time. These types of deals can be done if both parties are sensible, truthful, and with no surprises.
To minimize the risks of a wasted trip, the main recipe for success is to be specific with every detail and have it all documented on paper.

I'm down in Kelso. I sold my Miata to Carvana and ordered thru MacMulkin... EZ PZ. ... I had it courtesy delivered to Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way. Avoid them like the plague. I've heard very good things about North Bend Chevrolet tho.
Had another friend in town also go thru MM, delivered to Suburban Chevrolet in Sandy Oregon. Again all smoooth as silk from MM.
(as and aside, I'm looking to get another Miata, I miss it so much, and I saw the one I sold for sale in Georgia. I know it was the same one by the service records. Didn't stay on the market very long.)
The Carvana experience was seamless as well. They came, we did a little paper work, they gave me a check and took the car. (at what I thought was a fair price).
I’m still amazed dealers are trying to get over MSRP. I agree with you that you should get exactly what you want and order it new, plus, these cars seem to have a finicky streak and I’d want as much warranty as possible when buying it.
Search around the country through different sites like auto trader. There are now cars in dealer inventory and although they may be over MSRP then negotiate a lower price with them. Let them know you are ready today to buy the car. You may be surprised and get the options you want as well as the coveted MSRP price. It just takes some leg work. Also call around and ask other dealers what they are doing for orders. I found a few that were selling at MSRP.
He probably wants to trade it in state because of the tax savings on the new car... not sure how that works out of state, but I get it. I decided to wait longer for a 6k tax savings on my hellcat trade in rather than go out and buy one somewhere else. BUT, your better off trading in somewhere and taking cash on the trade in. Order from MacMulkin and the money you would of saved on the tax on trade in you save on having no mark up and buying at msrp.
Washington allows a tax credit on your trade, correct? And it appears the tax rate is 9.5%. What do you believe your trade is valued at? If for example it’s worth $50K, then your tax credit would be $4,750. What will the new C8 MSRP at? If it’s $100K, then they’re looking for $10K ADM. Why not offer them $5K ADM, and let them take your current vehicle in trade. If your current vehicle is worth $50K, then you’d get a $4,750 tax credit on the trade, basically wiping out the $5K ADM. Just another option to think about.
I'm in Washington I am going through Gilchrist Chevrolet Buick GMC of Tacoma at MSRP. The bad thing was the wait I'm at 18 months but currently at 3000 so I'm hoping ill to have my car soon.
The tax here in Washington IS something to consider when doing this. As mentioned above I sold my car to CARVANA. If I had used it as a trade in, it would have lowered the amount of sales tax due (8.2% here) by the amount listed on the trade in documents. Because I sold it, not as a part of that transaction, I owed on the total purchase price of the C8.
Also when buying out of state, if you have to pay sales tax in THAT state, that amount is deducted from the total you owe to the state of Washington. .. i.e. I bought my Miata in California which has a lower sales tax than Washington. I only owed the difference when I licensed the car.

Every order can’t take 18 months? That’s crazy long… glad you’re at 3000.
