I’ve been using the back up camera more because the blind spot warning is really specific. If a car is not completely in your blind spot, it doesn’t seem to help. I’d rather have the rear view mirror two inches wider to make it more panoramic.
The blind side warning on my now departed RAV4 and the current Mazda CX5 provide meaningful coverage of side traffic. And actionable alerts. Not sure why a car costing 3X can't do the same. But it can't.
And adaptive cruise, front impact, rain sensor auto wipers, and..............

The blind side warning on the drivers side only indicates a vehicle when it's right next to me. Anyone know why it has no range?
TIA
As other's have said- It's not very good. In fact, where I was religious using my side and center rear view mirrors to track folks coming up fast who will soon be on my bumpers use the less in the C8! The TV Mirror is the best thing since sliced bread. I can see folks on my rear fenders with it!
MY TV Mirror camera failed and in the two months I waited for the right parts to arrive at the dealer I FELT UNSAFE! Have used now 2 1/2 years and love it!
If the blind side warning is only going off when a vehicle is right next to you it isn't working properly and is covered under warranty. The system should start alerting you when a vehicle is about 16 feet back from the middle of your car.
I was surprised the blind spot alert doesn't have an audible warning that could be turned off/on as well as the mirror indicator. My peripheral vision usually sees the car next to me before I notice the mirror waring light.

What are they going to fix under warranty? From what I have seen, every C8 has the same terrible side warning monitor. This does not seem like a case where some of us simply were unlucky and got defective units.
Why can’t gm send out a software update for the mirrors so they work properly?
If you are referring to the mirror alert, the sensors are not in the mirrors. But yep GM could change the sensitive. For whatever reason they haven't.
I thought with the great view you get in the TV Mirror with some software and simple calculations could provide a great safety feather. With some calculations based on what the TV Camera is seeing software could display in HUD a car sketch with its closing speed! Especially those coming up fast from behind! Doesn't seem like rocket science. Far better that adaptive crush control for me. Heck I can see forward but having smart eyes looking back would be great!

If it isn't going off within 16 feet of the middle of the car it isn't operating per the owners manual. Mine works as described in the owners manual. If your isn't operating per the description per the owners manual and mine does it seems there is a problem with your car. The distance is shorter than my wife's Avalon but I sort of prefer it that way. The Avalon goes off when there is still room to change lanes. I rely on my mirrors and situational awareness as the primary safeguard to make lane changes. If I start to make a lane change and the warning is going off it means I missed something.
It's designed to tell you something is in your blind spot. If it's further back, you can see it in your mirrors. You do look in them before changing lanes, right?

This is the best technique for eliminating blinds spots.
16 feet from the center of the car or about 8 feet from the rear. That sounds about right. That isn't much of a warning at all.
I noticed that the light comes on just about the time a passing car disappears from the rear view mirror. So it actually is a blind spot monitor.
It does not warn you that a car is passing, it warns you a car is IN your blind spot.
I've owned a lot of cars with blind side warning over over the past 13 years and the Corvette's is the worst, coincidently it also has the worst blind side visibility. Over the shoulder just shows me my own nacelles, and blind side warning offers no warning chime and the mirrors are tiny. I've done Jerry's mirror settings and I still have blind spots between the rear camera mirror and side mirror.
GM if you're listening, I know Corvette is your flagship model so this is why I buy no luxury SUVs or cars from you. It's an awesome performance car but your driver assistance must be from another decade which causes me to not even consider any non performance models you make. Compared to even Hyundai and Kia you're light years behind. Get your act together,

My blind side warning light stays lit the entire way when I'm next to a divided concrete barrier. No other I've ever owned does this with BSW.
