Default convertible storage

Is there room to store light jackets, shoes, etc on top of the engine cover where the convertible top goes. There appears to be space just wondered if anybody tried it?

There's room for such stuff there, but I don't think that it's a good idea to put anything there.
I'd be afraid that anything I'd put there could slide around and interfere with the opening and closing of the tonneau cover.
I'd also worry that I would forget that I had something there, and would try to lower the top.

Why would you want to do that? Just curious.

This seems like an incredible bad idea.

It would seem that if something went wrong (while using it for a storage area) it would be difficult to fight a denial of a warranty claim.

Yes indeed

To the OP: I think the concern about things sliding around and interfering with the gears or the sensor that detects whether the top and tonneau are open or closed is a good reason to not put things like jackets back there. If you had a good way to secure things so they won't slide around it's feasible, I guess. But you can put thin items like jackets behind the seats.

People have successfully used these on the back of the seats to hang light items:

Heat, yes (see attached caution from the Owner's Manual), fumes not so much. I don't recommend attempting to store anything there. But, that area is open to the cabin and air can flow between them. I know this because with the tonneau open, and the cabin closed with the AC on, I can feel air flowing out of the cabin into the area where the nacelle resides when the tonneau is closed. It is a key reason that the access panels for the dipstick and coolant reservoir have the rubber flaps to seal off the space. If fumes were present they would get into the top headliner material and the cabin.

Yes, and if you put a pizza back there you can smell it just as strongly as if it were in the cabin.

That's why there's a seal around the engine cover, and warnings on the rubber flaps to keep them closed to keep fumes out of the passenger cabin.
