My bride and I picked up our 2023 from the Museum in September. During the drive home to southwestern Utah (~2,200 miles) we felt the car “buck” occasionally. The sensation is hard to describe but it was like a hesitation or a misfire, once, twice or three times in rapid succession (no CEL). Then, smooth power for a few hundred miles until the next incident. The farther we drove, the frequency of incidents seemed to decrease. It was especially noticeable on the interstate at steady speed, 75 or 80, cruise control on or off. I was terrified that my DCT was self-destructing.
Since that cross-country jaunt, we have taken the interstate to Las Vegas (120 miles one-way) a few times, Palm Springs, California (350 miles) once and Mesquite, Nevada (30 miles) with regularity on the moonshine run. The bucking continued but only infrequently. Somewhere around 3,000 miles, I telephoned the service advisor at the local Chevrolet dealership. He said that without a CEL, or reliable replication, there was nothing the dealer could do . . . Drive it.
We are now around 5,400 miles. Last weekend, on a run to Mesquite, it occurred to me that I have not felt the bucking for at least 1,000 miles. It could have been caused by any number of things, even stale fuel. My own theory is that the DCT needed some break-in miles.
I have created this post for the benefit of others who may be experiencing the bucking during early miles. In my case, the problem solved itself over time (miles). I hope that yours will too!
What a great car!
BTW, going forward , there will be fewer runs to Mesquite because my MD advised that my liver enzymes are running at 80 proof.
I have an uneducated guess................................. AFM turning on or off? Since (as I understand it) it will only be 4 cylinder mode for a max of 10 minutes, perhaps, some of the time, it just wasn't a smooth transition and the mechanical parts of it have broken in?..... Just a thought.
AFM was suspected but not the cause. The bucking would happen while holding speed constant in either V4 or V8 (Z mode). I do not hear the AFM switch at all. In any event, it is running smooth as silk now.
my guess would be the fuel, or somehow fuel-related. altho it's kind of rare that a fuel-related issue cleans itself up with no changes. glad it's fixed itself---might be a first I've read of on here!
