Default Center Console Lock Options?

Hey Guys,

I did a search for this and came across a few threads talking about when the console lock was eliminated. But I didn't see much in the way of finding a way to add one. Has anyone looked into this? It's not a super need, but any time I'm out with the top off I get super worried about someone leaning over and going through my center console. I've started rolling the windows up, which makes the reach length much further, but I'd be very interested in anyone who has found a way to actually install a lock!

When you get out and walk away, the interior intrusion alarm is active. It is a motion activated sensor. Someone reaches into your car, a startlingly loud alarm goes off. I tripped it accidentally incorrectly thinking the FOB in the house was close enough. Scared the bee-jeezus out of me. Which is why there isn't a redundant lock on the lid.

Valet mode should lock it. I haven't seen an aftermarket locking mechanism.

Haha, that gave me a laugh. I just went and tried this and nothing happened on my end. After some digging through the Owner's Manual, it says the "intrusion sensor is deactivated when the roof is off the coupe, or the top is down on the convertible." Was your roof off when the alarm hit? I also have a 1LT. I found something online that the Intrusion Sensor may only be on the 2/3LT.

Thanks for this suggestion! I hadn't thought about Valet Mode. I'll try that out and see.

IMO, it's not what I'd call secured storage even with a lock.
Any type of locking mechanism will just entice someone to brake the cover off to steal your stuff. I'd rather someone just open the console and take whatever worthless items I have stored there then to break it open to take them.

Ha..that made me laugh...and remember some of the neighborhoods I used to go through in Chicago. Some would leave their cars on the street with the doors unlocked, windows rolled down, glove box door open.....Better than broken windows and vandalized door locks...time after time...

Exactly, I grew up in a tough neighborhood.

Have you actually tried to open it with the car locked an the key not in the vehicle? This is the first I've heard of the console lock being removed. You don't say what year your car is, but my 2021 definitely locks the console when the car is locked.

Me too. The wording about the center console locking function is the same in the 2020 and 2023 Owner's Manuals.

Souns like you have options for locking the center console. Plus the alarm should help give some peace of mind.

Theres no way that locks..
Hell, it barely stays in place!
1/2 the time its hanging out 50/50.
They need to figure out a way to keep the button from arbitrarily sliding out!

Sounds like an assembly issue on yours. I don't have the issue at all.

Mine is a 23. With the roof off, the intrusion sensor apparently does not work and the console is definitely not locked. I didn't go back and try with the roof on. I'll try that another day.

That's what I do with my old Ferrari: windows down, doors unlocked.... there is no glove box, only a lockable cassette holder in the console - and, the car has no cup holders.
