Default Engine bay

Hello everyone
anyone have any ideas for covering the engine bay vents when washing the car so all that water doesn’t enter?

I put large beach towels under the vents in the engine bay. They soak up all the water and I have minimal wipe down after removing them. Simple, easy and cheap.

Vent blocks ($100 +) and towels to absorb any small water leaks.

Lots of Threads on the subject from 2020 when I got mine. Most posts from folks who don't yet have their C8 OR have not washed. Washed mine many time in 3 years. Do nothing special! NOT needed.
  • 1st there is NO "ALL THE WATER." I wash just like I did my Two C7s, C6 and Two C4s.
  • 2nd get about 3 or 4 oz of water that comes from the hatch seam as well as some from vents. Mostly goes down to the front of the engine compartment.
  • 3rd need a few oz of water as the side air scoops let a lot of air and dirt in when driving. When finished washing the outside of the car, pop the hatch and clean the engine compartment. Takes only a few minutes.
  • 4th the few oz of water are picked up with one corner of old bath towel. That wet end is great for taking dust and dirt from the flat panels and engine cover.
  • 5th then use the mostly dry towel to dry clean and dry all areas.
In fact some folks made and sold "stuff" that covered the vents BUT with very low demand stopped. Like my old boss would say when he walked thru our R&D Lab and saw an engineer doing what he thought was foolish. Old Navy Officer so this statement was peppered with some explicative deleted's, "Your solving a problem NOT known to exist using a method known not to work!

I don't do a thing. my driveway is steep. I back up. I wash the car. Soap and water run under the back window into the engine compartment. Soap fills the vents and I spray it to rinse.

For two years before I built a carport the car was parked outside, in the rain, Water doesn't hurt a thing. They planned on water getting in.

No worries.

As said, there have been a number of threads on preventing water from getting into the engine bay when washing the vehicle. Many say it is not a problem as not that much gets into the engine bay and what does is easily cleaned up.

As usual, reading a bunch of warnings regarding this car, (lift pucks, rad grills etc etc) I covered my vents and was considering purchasing something to cover the dreaded water ingress. Until I realized I want some water in there and its the easiest part of the car to clean! Much easer than bending in half to do the front/rear bumpers and the side lip thingies. I am not holding a hose to the vents and flooding but I am not avoiding them and just spraying as I would any grill. Then lift the trunk and wipe the glass and the engine.

These work if keeping your engine compartment dry during wash justifies the cost.

I used to be paranoid until I washed my own car. The amount of water is really minimal. Just put a towel under each vent and one across the back and it will catch 95%.

yes I received 2 sets of blocks which can be put in the vents when washing to keep the water out

one set is listed for sale in the C8 market place; they sell for $149 and I am asking $100 shipped

Look the ad up; don't need 2 sets one needs to go

Water intrusion is very minimal unless you are standing there for 5 minutes holding the hose directly into the vent.

I always find the worry about “water intrusion” in the engine bay fascinating. Whatever did we do for the vents on the C7 that let water in from top of the hood?

Sarcasm aside, I suspect the reason for such concern, obviously only if you have a coupe, is the desire to keep the engine looking pristine since it can be seen, unlike the C7 engine.

That said, if you daily drive your C8 like I do, you still have to worry about road dust/grime and rain. I clean the engine when I wash the car.

I like to power wash my engine. I also drive my C8 every chance I get and every now and then I may even drive it in the rain.

Sooooooo much dust gets in there and all the places you have get it out by hand is time consuming. Especially if you have a bad back.
I too will lightly rinse the dust out with a power washer the blow and dry off the water

I do that, but with the hatch open. I stand there for about 5 minutes hosing down the engine, then I go over the entire engine bay with a soapy wash mitt, finally I blow it dry it with a leaf blower. Looks great!
