Since I tend to only drive my 2022 C8 on nice days, I never once had to activate the windshield defogger...until today. When I did, I noticed the driver's side defogger is apparently not working, as evidenced in the photos below. Unless there is some sort of easy fix, I am imagining in great horror, the dealer having to completely disassemble my dashboard (with all the new problems that could cause). Any words of hope I can hang onto, or is my car going to be lying in pieces in the service department?
Ironically, this just happened to me the other day as well. However, thankfully in my situation it was the passenger side so easier for me to safely drive. Mines a daily with almost 45K on it and I never noticed it before. It was one of those summer days in central Florida where the temp and humidity was just right for fogging up the windshield. I’ll be interested in the replies as well.

Okay, so I just went down to the parking lot here at work, fired up my C8 and put the front defroster on "maximum" (just I had this morning). Damn, if it's not blowing quite evenly across the entire defrost vent (albeit, more strongly in the center of the vent, and a little less on the far sides). I know if I bring the car to the dealer now, I'll just hear the dreaded, "we could not replicate your problem." I guess I will just keep an eye on it and see if it happens again....
Perhaps some moisture collected in the drivers side duct. Or perhaps you had different comfort settings for the passenger and driver that caused a difference in defrosting.

This recommendation is a little outside of the box, but these cars are more computerized than ever. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and see if that clears things up before you take it to a dealership for service.

its very likely that its just the louver that opens and closes that didnt actuate. def keep an eye but i doubt it happens again
No clue if it’s relevant, but my wife had a Lincoln where the driver side would only blow cold regardless of the separate dual control. The fix was an actuator reachable under the dash and was stunningly inexpensive (under $50 part). So don’t give up just yet.

Since you’ve never used it before it may have been stuck mechanically, or even possibly electronically as chemdawg mentioned. It’s probably a best practice for all of us to cycle everything through on these car’s occasionally. Glad it’s working though!

Like you, I would just keep an eye on it and see if the windshield fogs up again. Hopefully it was just one of those rare occasions where the moisture level was just right to fog up the windshield.
I think the advice to use some things once in awhile is a good one. Plus, I had one of the "doors" or louvers start acting up in another car. When I took it to my indie shop the guys knew exactly where but not WHICH one it was. The first guy said he hoped it was "the easy one." Because the hard-to-get-to one took more time (and money). It was the easy one which was, as described above, easy to get to under the dash.
I think using it/cycling it every once in awhile is a very good idea. Good luck with it!
