Default C8 Window Tinting

Is anyone aware of issues with tinting the engine hatch window from a engine heat?

Many have said the tint cannot handle the heat over time

Why would you tint it in the first place?

I tinted my coupe rear window with 5% Ceramic. The car looks way better because the glass blends in with the surrounding black trim pieces. My side windows are 18% and they almost blend in with the two black trim pieces on the sides.

If I want to show someone the engine, I open the rear, like you would open the hood of any other car.

Not related but sort of is, I've had the back window on my HTC tinted twice now and it always bubbles badly along the edges.

Find a better tint shop. Mine has been tinted for 18 months - no bubbles.

I would add to the "find a better tint shop...", also see what levels of tint that have. My shop has some very inexpensive stuff, all the way to some high grade ceramic. The ceramic is wonderful, blocking allot of heat, and for some reason looks more clear that a non ceramic I had them do when I was cheap. Do believe it is a case of getting what you pay for.

Just paint it. Can’t see anything out of it anyway.

I got a great idea I think I’ll tint the rear hatch window to hide the engine from view

I had mine tinted, same % as side windows (35%). Highest grade ceramic. Looks great! No issues, still perfect. Been on long drives. The shop warranties their materials and labor for *lifetime*, meaning if you ever get a bubble they will re-do it.

Personal preference. And in my opinion to keep folks from leaning on your car to see the engine !

Locally the news reported a decent sized drug bust that supposedly started with a car being pulled over for tinting thought to be darker than was legal. Thought that was kind of interesting, I don't know that most police are particularly concerned about the depth of tinting but it does provide them with a valid reason to pull you over if they want to check things out.

Illegal tint is an invitation into your car. If you’re going to live on the edge of legal tint limits don’t have a joint or open beer in your lap 😝

Absolutely no need. And that goes for the window right behind the passenger compartment, too.

Agree, only tinted driver / passenger doors with darkest legal tint available then 98% clear ceramic UV blocking film on windshield.
The two small windows are dark enough from factory to match the tint just added.
Rear hatch does not get any tint for obvious reasons.
