Default Surprising Initial 2024 Constraints

Here's a Brink of Speed YouTube video.
0 to 0:47. Skip
0:47 to 2:30 No Flipping 2024 provisions
2:30 UAW Strike Possibilities. End of Contract is September 15
4:10 Color and Wheel Constraints!!! Very limited CF wheels, Only 32 RipTide Blue Stingrays, 8 Sea Wolf Gray, 0 Cactus, 149 sets of 5 spoke silver wheels (arghhh)

Also, carbon ceramic brakes are on constraints since they are standard equipment on the eRay. So the eRay has dibs on ceramic brakes. Need big brakes to halt that lead sled. For the eRay, why not offfer an instantaneous post hole digger as an alternate to ceramic brakes?

It's starting to feel like these constraints are just the 'new normal'. This is the 5th model year and we are still dealing with constraints.

We are talking about a car that is offered with a abundance of option choices. Only logical there will be constraints from time to time. I personally think they are doing a good job overall.

I am actually pretty discouraged. I've had Corvettes for 40 years and have never swayed, but I am finely thinking of pulling my deposit and going
the Porsche route.

Down side to just in time assembly. However, to their credit, they don't end up with a bunch of left over **** no one wants; which helps control cost overruns big time.

I can understand the disappointment and it surely has been many years, but what do you want GM to do? Buy the raw materials at any price? Can you guess who will pay for that "materials at any price"? How about buying the components made elsewhere "at any price? Oops, there goes the price UP again...

In your minds, you know why we are here. All the companies, all, made mistakes in their calculations of just how much "stuff" they could get made elsewhere---everything from small components, parts made overseas, to raw materials used FOR manufacturing in this country. And those companies are paying for it in addition to buyers of the end product, the C8. Nothing personal, it's just business, or the lack of it.

If it's any consolation, just think of this: what if the Corvette management and the GM management had not approved and gone forward with the entire plant assembly line expansion, update, new paint procedure and all the new machinery, etc.? How long do you think you'd be waiting then? And add in the extra complexity of the C8 compared to its predecessors being produced in the old, non-updated plant, good as it was "for its time." There was also that thing called Covid 19, too.

Why? Because there are some constraints? GM isn't the only manufacturer dealing with shortages still... Porsche being one of them. Their lead times are anywhere from 3 to 18 months depending on the model and options.

It looks like the phrase "carbon fiber" is a synonym for "constraint." From what little I know I think the problem is that carbon fiber layup is intensely human labor plus it's easy to end up with a piece that has a visual defect; i.e. the weave is a little distorted or out of line. So carbon fiber take a long time to manufacture, labor intense, significant number of production defects. I remember GM was, at one time, selling the CF rockers for $1000 less if you ordered "carbon flash." The less expensive black painted CF rockers were less expensive because their visual defects were painted over.

...and limits the available stock of repair parts. What if you need a repair part to get your car running NOW? I'm concerned with the future and parts availability. I don't want to own a disposable $100k car.

Everyone wants the Q91 wheels...they could certainly stockpile a few more of those and still sell every set.

This is a good point. Owners arer already having to wait for repair parts if their car breaks down/needs body repairs.

Don't do it unless you at least drive a C8! Go to the NCM & drive one of theirs for a few laps on their race track. While you're there, tour the factory! You can rent a C8 at a Las Vegas race track, and a few others around the country. Wow, 40 years!
