I think it's a waste and it shows the importance of getting everything in writing beforehand. That said, you stated it's not the money, so if you want it... do it!
Do it yourself, if you have the ability to do so. I ceramic coated my car, and also pulled the wheels and did both the barrels and face of them too.
We just got caught in a rain storm Friday evening and drove home about 40 miles in rain. Too bad, as the Vette was spotless. I got up early Saturday morning to wash it before the sun was in our driveway, but much to my surprise, the car was nearly spotless...... except the rear end of it. I used just my detail spray to go over anything, mostly the rear end. The wheels still looked pretty good.... not great, but still shocked how good it looked, especially after driving home in the rain.
You (anyone) can do the wheels (and cars) yourself. I did tons of research and watched more YT videos that I care to admit. I found a set of YT videos doing torture tests over a period of months and seasons. A common, easy to obtain, supplier in the top 5 was Adams. I gave it a try after watching g THEIR videos, and kinda screwed things up. A call to Adams resulted in not only a full refund PLUS 10%, AND they let me keep the kit. On top of that. They put me on the phone with a tech who explained what I did wrong and how to fix it. IT WORKED!
im not a salesperson for Adams - just a DIYer reporting what I found out. If you get a decent product and good support, you’ll do fine. Results are AMAZING! It is time consuming resulting in the high costs. Materials aren’t cheap either. However, I was blown away by being able to completely treat a 911 and my wife’s SUV.
^^^^ I have Adams Graphene Ceramic Coating on both of our cars, including the Vette. Have used it on 5 different cars..... EASY to use, and it holds up GREAT. Happy customer !
By the way, when I described how well the car reacted after driving in rain for 40 miles, and then found that it was still super clean, it was the ADAMS Graphene Ceramic on the car that I applied 3 years ago.
The price is dependent on the product used. If you are looking at the price for some Autozone or O'Reilly's product it will no doubts be cheaper and not as resilient as higher end ceramics. Ceramics is the buzz word today and not all are created equally. That price seems to be in the neighborhood of sprayed on products, such as the one Mark was referring to. My experience is, it is worth cleaning your car and not spending a lot of time on your wheels, You can look at changing your brake pads but that is a whole other topic.
Can't imagine thinking pulling the wheels would be included.
I've used ceramic spray on the wheels. Works great!
Not worth the effort to remove the wheels.
I had my car ceramic coated and my guy coated the face of the wheels as well.
He told me it would be an extra $350 to have him remove the wheels and coat the inside barrels.
Is that common or should I just not let him do it?
The money isn’t the issue. I just thought everything was included from the start.
My guy included the wheel face in the price of the ceramic but charged me $50 per wheel to remove them and coat the barrels and the calipers. I thought $200 was fair. $350 sounds a little high.
My guy charges by the day. I gave him 4 days to do the car whole which included one day of the car just sitting in his work space to cure. I asked that he do the wheels and calipers, and while he was at it to change to black lug nuts. (Adams Advanced Graphene).
Worth doing but not $350 worth... But for me, ..such a PITA to jack up the car remove the wheels, coat (the easy part!!!) then do the other side.
