I remember the pics and videos from last year when it rained too much over there. Just saw the storm track for the Hurricane. I'm guessing some folks COS experience will be impacted when it gets there. Yikes.
We could get 1 years average rainfall in 1 week in Pahrump NV! If that happens, it will not be fun, unless you are driving a "Waterlink" Model Corvette which Spring Mountain "Does Not Have" !

Actually, high performance driving in seriously wet conditions allows one to learn at-the-limit car control a LOT faster than on a dry surface (and with a lower chance of binning it due to the decreased energy levels.)
When I saw that storm track two days ago I was thinking the same thing - Fellows COS will be seriously impacted. I felt the change in track conditions from the morning track sessions and the afternoon sessions because the heat made the track much slicker. I can’t imagine the track in the rain!
I feel bad for those scheduled to attend during this storm.
There will be no place for 6-10" of rain in 24-48 hours to go, and if the forecast is accurate, Spring Mt. will be closed next week, and perhaps longer to make repairs. This type of event would make the recent flood look like a sprinkle.
I just looked again NWS forecasts do seem to be dialing back the rainfall potential for Pahrump, NV. We're still a few days out, which means considerable uncertainty in a particular local area.
It could still be very bad, or it could end up being a minor event.
When I lived on the Chesapeake Bay waterfront, TS Isabel predictions were minimal impact for my area up until the storm hit, yet we ended up with a 10' storm surge and massive flood damage because the track shifted. The same can occur with rainfall totals, particularly if the storm slows down or stalls.
The same happened in Houston a few years ago, when the storm stalled, and catastrophic flooding occured. There was almost no wind damage, it was all flooding from rainfall.
We had no issues and class ran as planned. Temps were actually much lower than normal for the week. Next weeks classes will be like 8-10 degrees hotter than we had it
