I had a deep paint chip where fuel door touched body. Ordered paint pen from GM (AC Delco) and it worked perfectly and can not only not see paint chip but completely forgotten until just now.
My few experiences with GM supplied from dealers were not good... poor color/shade match. I've had MUCH better luck with ColorRite brand. All the best, in any event.
I got the paint code from GM but they didn't didn't have the paint in stock. I went to an automotive paint store with the GM code and the match was great.
I've had best luck with the below. Perfect color match for both Hypersonic Gray Metallic and Toyota Silver Sky Metallic. And high metallic silvers are VERY difficult to match.
I used Dr Color Chip one time and will never use it again. Purchased 1/2 oz bottle of Silver Sky Metallic ($35) for my Tacoma and its wasn't even close to a match. My GM Blade Silver was a much closer match.
I have always used Dr. Color Chip. My cars were silver, pearl metallic, artic white and black. Mo problem with the matching. Perhaps there would be some difference in other colors.
