Which radiator and intake screens does everyone recommend? Can I just make these myself without spending an exorbitant amount of money on some plastic? Anyone have the templates for these? Thanks!
Pretty easy to install. I think they are all the same. I made my own on my first car cause there were not many options. Picked the car up in December of 19 I.e no bugs out, got home 700 miles later. My first wash and I saw the crap in the fins. I used a dental scraper to pull out the debris and straighten them. I’ve even looked at the grills after the install and the screens are doing their jobs.
For a template just get some paper bags and scissors. Trim a little here and there and it’s pretty simple.

how hard are they to instal? I was just going to get the factory ones on my build, along with the flaps on the back tires…I’m a bad diyer
drive up on some ramps, undo about 10 small bolts, install, reassemble, move on. The only way you couldn’t DIY it was if you are handicapped and confined to a wheelchair. It’s a 10 minute job….
That was the hardest decision on my build. I know I wanted some but the Scrape Armor cost so much. After watching install videos on all of them I decided I like the contour and fasteners of the Scrape Armor. The final nail for me was Tadge talking about how some of the others could affect the warranty. That said I checked the box to ensure GM had to stand behind these covers and warranty any issue caused by them.
I have the CCG 4-piece grill set ($99) installed on my C8 Z51...My Service Director, who also owns a C8 Z51, has these same grills installed on his...
Yep many of us installed on our 2020 C8 well before the expensive Scrape Armor came out. They are from a company who has been making Mesh Screen Protectors for >10 years.
Most of us installed their thin 1/4-inch opening aluminum screens with a high open area %, much more open area than window screen that is typical max 50%. OP is looking for trouble buying whatever from a hardware store.
I and many bought their 16" X 48" sheet for $59 and cut our own. Can do that OR as you did buy precut! Enough on sheet to make 4 for the front AND two for the rear fenders. This is a very detailed many Pics/Long cation PDF's with links to patterns. Has info from other members: http://netwelding.com/CF_Splitter.pdf
They sell a larger mesh like Scrape Armor BUT lets in twice the size bugs. If tracking on 100F Texas days get the larger mesh. BTW I and many others installed with NO Zip Ties showing by 1st removing the Grill Bar. All cut edges and ties covered by OEM grill.
Member blaun's detailed install cover in forum and links provide in my PDF
blaun includes patters to make mesh for rear fender scoops. Enough in the $59 sheet to do 4 front and two side rear fender scoops.
See my PDF in post #18. My Zip ties are ALL hidden as are all edges behind the OEM grill. Some are concerned about plastic Ties. Can buy black stainless ties for $0.20 each. In my case no need for black as can't see any! My How To PDF shows how to hide them behind grill bar. This is one pic too give an idea:
Example of a way to hind Zip Tie behind grill bar. BTW Scrape Armor requires removing the grill bar bolts. Once removed bar just slips out of slots in body. That is one slot below where you see wire tie.
