Impressed how many people have opinions on this. So let's say you need this for CAFE, government regs etc. It still has modes that don't allow AFM and I believe lock out 7th and 8th gear. And that's ok? Imagine your gas mileage running those modes all the time? Why can't there be a simple AFM disable for all modes that can be toggled? Operators choice. It's no different than switching to manual or track etc.
The EPA only tests in modes that can be active at startup. So manual shifting or track mode have zero impact on Cafe measurements.
If you could disable AFM in all modes, the EPA would have to test in the startup modes without AFM. I'm impressed with how many people make a mountain out of a mole hill.

AFM is a fantastic feature. I can be cruising at 80+ mph and the car shifts to 4 cylinders to maximize mpg. Drove 395 miles on a full tank of gas from St George UT to Los Angeles and had 71 miles of range when I arrived home on that tank. That's impressive.

I'm all in favor of technology that lets me go from 0-60 in less than 3 seconds AND get 30+ mpg on the highway at extra legal speeds. No, I didn't buy the C8 for gas mileage. But I'm not into throwing money away, either.
Legally, GM can’t offer the ability turn off AFM on demand on the C8 and be able to claim the fuel efficiency rating of the car per CAFE standards.
I don't understand. I've seen many posts saying, if I don't like AFM, I can put it manual mode or track mode or program a custom mode to use track mode etc., on demand. As I understand it, that does disable AFM. Please explain the difference of me being able to disable at will by using a couple of different performance modes vs..disabling in other modes and how that relates to CAFE? Can I disable it as is? Yes. But only in certain modes. Still makes no sense to me.
