I've started a new technique when parking on a hill. New to me anyway. My driveway is quite steep so this past month I started..
Apply brake. (D'oh)
Apply Parking Brake.
Release (foot) Brake
Put Transmission in PARK
Turn Car Off.
By doing this there is no pressure put on the parking pawls in the tranny, i.e. there is no more "thump" when putting the car in gear when I drive away. I don't know if there is an overall better treatment of the tranny by not putting any pressure on it but I do FEEL better doing it this way. .. So much so that I've started doing it even on the flats. (Motor Memory)
FYI
My 2¢
This is the procedure I do every time I park all my vehicles, flat ground or not. No need to ever load a parking pawl.
The OP's "technique" has been the method in every car owner's manual forever, including the Corvette
:
The manual does not mention releasing the foot brake between the application of the EPB and putting the car in Park. That's the real point of the procedure--- to make SURE it's the EPB holding the car, not the tranny. ..
