Hasn't been an issue for me. Even on the C7, which didn't have a palm rest, I still gripped it by the edge. As far as having to look at the screen, I guess I know what mode I'm in and which way to turn it to get where I want to be (which is generally MyMode, sometimes Tour, and rarely Weather.

Even if the **** had a detent for each mode, if you can't remember where the setting you want is you'd have to look down at the ****, and looking at the **** would take your eyes off the road further and longer.

With the ****, I never even have to look. I can find the **** by feel with my eyes on the road, and I know which way to turn it to get where I want to be. Worst case, I can see the dash change in my peripheral vision. Much safer than looking down at a row of identical buttons. MHO.

Exactly how I use mine!

I echo the other posts about only using Z mode and My Mode, so not a big deal. However, I find the pad on top of the selector very useful for me; it serves as a "wrist rest" when navigating the info screen while driving. On the freeway small bumps and movement nearly always make me choose the wrong icon unless my wrist is on the pad to steady it. Very useful and I think that was the intent of the engineer. Anyway, works for me.

I never thought about it, I use z mode and my mode only… but I do notice that for some music I use the controls on the steering wheel, but for a song I really like, I still turn it up via the **** on the display. Not sure why.

The first few weeks I used every "mode" but soon the novelty wore off. Lets see ... Weather mode: well its not raining. Track mode is supposed to be on track.
So that leaves Tour and Sport. What I do is set "Z" the way I want it. Car has been in Tour mode for at least 18 months and a press of Z does what I want. I have not bothered with My mode but may set it to Stealth for coming home late and keeping neighbours happy.

As I mentioned earlier, I primarily use My Mode and Z Mode and really never use the other drive modes...I like the fact you can customize both My Mode and Z-Mode to your own personal driving preferences...

I primarily use My Mode and have it setup such that it falls between Touring and Sport Modes...I find this setup perfect for driving around town and highway cruising...

If I'm feeling a bit rowdy, I simply switch over to Z Mode and have it setup such that it falls between Sport and Track Modes...Also with this Z Mode setup AFM is disabled...

I also only use Z-Mode and My Mode. I only use the Mode **** to exit Z-Mode so it does not go into Touring as if exiting pushing the steering wheel button. Simply reach down without looking, use the wrist rest and turn the **** one quick twist CCW. It's in My Mode.

I have >1500 songs paying in shuffle mode from a flash drive. If a song comes up I want louder I use the lever on the right of the steering wheel, again without looking and increase the volume. Why use that small **** on the dash?? It I want to skip or repeat a song use the levels on the left of the steering wheel.

Exactly my setup. I'm always in 'Z' mode but if I going over a rough section of road I switch to 'My Mode' to soften up the suspension.
