I did do a return visit a few years back. The downtown area hasn't changed much, but, of course, the area all around Mooresville has exploded economically. My grandfather was a WWI vet and a barber on Main Street. His shop is still in the same place. My mother is 96 now, sharp and still drives, and the house she was born in is still there, and largely unchanged.
Mr. Teeter was my buddy, and his wife ran the cash register. The popsicles were often free. The original Teeter's store in downtown Mooresville was opened by the family in 1939, and the family made a deal in the 1960s with Mr. Harris to merge with his store in Charlotte. Both Harris and Teeter started with one store, and after their merger started opening more. The rest is history.

Yes, Downtown hasn't changed much in the 20+ years we've been here. It is a bit more lively, with shops and restaurants opening, trading hands and closing...then reopening!.... but the bones are the same. The surrounding area is now being overbuilt with high density, vertical development. Our Town 'Fathers' have basically sold out to developers. Virtually no single family dwellings being built.
Harris Teeter is still a powerhouse in this neck of the woods with competition from Publix, Aldi, Food Lion and Lowes (Foods). The popsicles are no longer free!........
Downtown still has the small town ambiance...the outskirts, nope!
