Default Stop gap Stingray

I am thinking of buying a stingray while I wait for the ERay, assuming ~6 months, have found two without the 2100 price increase.

1) 2LT Z51 Mag Lift GT2 coupe -89k MSRP
2) 1LT Conv Perf Exhaust, Comp seats -79k with a $1300 discount.

I wanted to know if 2 will be much harder to resell 6 months later compared to 1. I am getting it at a $3400 discount which is very tempting but wondering if I will get stuck with it due to the textile comp seats/1LT and maybe that's why it is discounted?

With winter soon upon us, unless you are going to daily drive it, I would personally just wait for the E-Ray.

I think you will lose money as the market is really cooling off fast. Just wait the 6 months.

You will lose Taxes and Registration costs. Many gamblers go to casinos with the idea they will be the house. Odds are against it!

You will lose less money on a 1lt.

For resale no doubt #1 is the best option, however, watching the market closely I agree with proeagles that the market is getting cold. I would not buy a car thinking of reselling in six months, unless you don't care about losing money......

I am okay losing the sales tax, registration etc. I see a lot of 23s on the lot but was thinking that a well optioned 24 C8 would still be desirable come spring/summer 24 for someone who doesn't want to wait, at close to the new MSRP. If I don't get an ERay for any reason, I can continue to drive it.

I thought the same thing about waiting on a Z but I think I am going to like the Stingray enough to want to keep it along with the Z.

if you trade it on your eray you won’t lose your tax money or even sell it through an auction, say eBay and have them make final purchase at dealership you get you eray from. In that case you will get all it will bring and not lose your tax money.

It depends on the tax laws in your state. Some states charge the full tax whether or not you trade in a car.

There seemed to be a lot of 1LT cars bought over the past few years. That may be a better buy if you plan to resell quickly, but personally I would rather have the 2LT as it has options I would want on a car.

I have a 21 z51 3lt. Holding out for a zr1 since I already have a great car to drive. In the interim I have looked at zo6 but under no circumstances would I pay msrp+. Since I got on the list late everything I see is msrp plus. Too long of a wait at msrp for an interim car. Glad I have a good stingray.

You are doing well if a Stingray is just a stop gap bridge to get to the car that you really want

I got on the list for ZO6 at MSRP and then bought my HTC 3LT Stingray. The more I drive the Stingray the more I think the ZO6 is not worth the extra $40-$50k.

I go back and forth in my thinking.

This is what I've decided, if I get the ERay allocation tomorrow, I might not get the Stingray otherwise I'm going for it. I don't want to wait and miss out, with this stingray I could potentially skip the ERay and go for the ZR1 as well. Most dealers have reissued window stickers now with the $2100 price increase, even for the 2024s that were built before the price increase

definitely check your state, thanks for pointing that out. I’d sure hate to lead someone astray.

In many respects life can be short, and unpredictable. I'd go for the 2LT coupe (I think 1LT is a much harder resell) and wait and see about the Eray. Between the animosity with the UAW and GM, supply chain issues and potential early adopter teething pains, I would be OK waiting a bit for an Eray. The Stingray is a blast to drive and will keep you entertained. In the meantime more information will come out about the ZR1. You will be able to make a more informed decision, within the next six months, while you are enjoying the heck out of your SR.

For me it is enjoy the 2023 SR, order a Z06 in Jan 2024, wait for a 2026 ZR1 and see if I really want it. Since I have zero interest in anything electrified, and a boosted engine is not my first choice (depending on much yet to be released data on the ZR1), I may just keep the Z06 and be buried in it. Oh the horrors of a first world problem we are all so lucky to have!!!!

Correct. However consider this.

The trade-in value you get from a dealer is most often substantially less than you get selling to a private party.

For example if the tax rate is 6% and you can sell the car private party for an amount which is over 6% more than the dealer is offering on a trade you're money ahead selling PP

$80K car total trade value with tac credit is $84800. Sell PP for over $84800 and you are better off.

Down side is it's less hassle to trade in to the dealer and is the effort going PP worth it?
