Default Realistic Question?

Coming up, I have to sell my 3LT to make room for my Z06.

Realistically, what is a good price? Nothing Pie-in-the-sky...

It has pretty much everything.
GM 5VM Carbon Fiber painted carbon flash
Carbon Fiber Trim 1
Z51
Magride
Carbon engine bay
Red engine cover
Z06 Replicas from MRR wheels, I still have the originals.

I would go look at comparables online for a 500 mile range. That should tell you around where to price.

You can look at auction site history, like BAT / Cars and Bids, though that tends to be top end of the market.

I would research and not make the mistake Vette owners are making by asking what they paid or even more... for a used car. It is not the same thrill buying used as buying brand new, and considering the C8's history there is a risk of buying someone else's problem.

By now you should be aware dealers will offer you pennies on the dollar regardless of condition or options while trying to sell at $10K plus over the original MSRP as if it is 2020 or the prospective buyers are ignorant and not informed. I would be true to myself and accept the possibility of a loss. Take into account there are thousands of Vettes in the market, the state of economy, and interest rates buyers have to deal with. It's a buyers' market and if you get a solid offer with a sure sale take it. The longer your car is on the market the harder it is to sale. Be realistic. Best of luck.

Post it on the classifieds, with a full description, good pictures, and your asking price. You can always lower it, but it's always better to price it realistically to begin with. I'm done with freaking dealers, so will buy a pristine used car from original owner, with no more than a year of warranty lost, and minimal miles. It's still time to sell it well, but don't expect to get your taxes and other crap back, like many still do, as mentioned before. Best of luck. If it's a coupe with sky gray interior, will check it out.

That's an excellent point.

A smart buyer will always try to minimize risks and will prefer dealing with the original owner and knowing the environment the car has been in as opposed to buying from a dealer.

Carmax usually offer more than Carvana or Vroom plus they issue a check in an hour or so, without having the car taken away and waiting days for payment.

If you need it for trade in to save on sales tax, take it to Carmax and get a 30 day offer on it and then see if you think you can sell it for more than the tax savings and offer.

I bought my HTC from a forum member. Had 1000 miles on it and warranty.

No risk and you get it right now.

I have purchased a lot of Vettes and sold to forum members over the years.

Good way to go.

Check ebay with the "Sold Listings" filter on the left.

On a side note, to list a car on ebay is just $25, with no additional fees to the buyer or seller, unlike BaT and the other sites that overcharge with their stupid/excessive fees.

If you're going to sell it privately, start with the price you'd like to get, and pad it upwards, and don't worry if it's higher than any comparables.
Like in real estate, if you start high and the right buyer comes along, you may get high, but if you start low, you will surely get low, or lower.
You might get a bidding war, anything is possible, but I wouldn't count on that.
Also, if you start high, it gives you more room to negotiate, which may get the deal done sooner.
In this market, there are probably lots of "right buyers" out there, looking for gently used C8s, and they may be willing to pay you what you want, or close.
It's still a supply and demand situation, in my opinion, with many buyers knowing that the dealers are asking way too much for what they have to sell.
Just my perspective on selling anything used, privately. YMMV.

I would start at MSRP, or maybe a little lower, and go from there because they're always going to talk you down/negotiate.

^. This. The days of getting MSRP + a big markup are coming to an end. If financing is needed, high interest rates limit the pool of prospective buyers.

Orice it no more than MSRP and be prepared to accept a little less to get the deal done.

Since when does CarMax issue 30 day offers.? It is 7 days, unless they just recently changed.

I think 7 days is the right number. And my experience was if you don’t act within the 7 days their quote automatically goes DOWN. Specifically, I got a quote on a C8 at $105K (It was back when there were more serious markups than today, I only paid $86,450 for it) and went back to talk to them after about 10 days and the dropped the offer to $101K. Asked them why the drop and the manager told me it was due to two things. The first being that they had purchased a few C8s since they gave me the quote and, second, they have a algorithm in their system that essentially assumes that if you have not or were not able to sell it to someone else during that time at above their quoted price (because, face it, they know people use their price as a floor and try to sell it to somebody (anybody) for more and go back to them if you can’t) then the price is likely too high. I don’t know if that is exactly what is going on or which thing weighs more heavily in the calculation but it makes sense. It’s at least logical.

And he also told me to not get a quote 30-45 days before you know you’re going to try to sell you’re vehicle just to have a benchmark for planning purposes because then the algorithm will reduce the quote even more because it assumes you haven’t been able to sell it over a longer period of time and are more likely to take an even lower amount.

Hope this helps.

Oh. And I wound up selling that car to the dealer I bought it from for $101K, if I remember correctly. At the time I was trying to buy a Colorado or a Silverado and by selling to a dealer you can get a tax offset in the amount of the trade-in that is good for 365 days. Never did buy a truck so missed out on that benefit.
