Has anyone tried to do an H-pipe exhaust for the C8 yet? After looking at how the X is formed, it almost seems like an H would make more sense from a weight and cost perspective.
And before folks hammer on there is a loss of performance, Mishimoto did a very long and lengthy test on this not so long ago demonstrating that the "losses" are rather minimal if any at all. To me it looked like "noise" more than a loss (as in you can run the same exact configuration twice on the same dyno and get similar changes). One thing that did come out from the testing is that sound changes between an H and an X... that is pretty much it.
Akrapovic uses an h-pipe vs. an x-pipe config on their catback exhaust.... Of course it's about $9700 for the exhaust so there's not much info on it...I'd expect changes to the sound would be the biggest difference. Performance differences between the h vs. x pipes are really a throw back before we had GDI engines with variable timing, these days, I don't think there would be any difference on a dyno between the two...
Yeah, almost seems like due to where everything is, it is basically an Xpipe. I was wondering if someone was able to get stuff to fit like a real |--| vs )-(. The bends seem to consume more material than a straight pipe. Seems the mufflers are the cause of the bends and not necessarily creating the X.
