Every time I start the car I get a message, “Connection Unavailable, Call an OnStar agent”. Is there a way to delete this message?
One way you can stop the message from appearing is by connecting the car. Maybe you're parking in a Faraday cage so the car can't get signal in or out, maybe you have not connected it to your home Wi-Fi, or any number of other reasons it might not connect.
You may be able to disable OnStar. Call OnStar, look in your owner's manual, or check the OnStar app for those instructions.
They want your money and are willing to wear you down. Just because you already have all of this available through your phone does not deter them in the slightest.
I never activated OnStar on my C8 so it's never been a problem. I had that issue with my C7 and no amount of contacting OnStar got rid of it. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it with dealer magic.
Crappola "feature," pure and simple. Nothing should be difficult to delete or deactivate... they're our cars, no longer GMs! (< < < btw, I've never used that symbol before )
Thanks for the responses. When I bought the car, OnStar was already activated. It was the introductory version that was active for only a few months. I let it run out, I didn’t need it. When it expired is when this message started and it displays every time I start the car no matter where it’s parked. I’ve looked through the manuals and I don’t see anything with regards to stopping this message from displaying. I’ve had other vehicles that initially had OnStar and when the introductory period ended, that was pretty much it. I never saw a mestage like I’m getting here. The car is a 2023 model year.
Agree, I was hoping there was a simple solution. I’m going to contact the dealership and see if they can help me. I saw a 2022 C8-R in a parking lot tonight and I asked the owner if he had seen this problem. He had not and commented that the dealer he bought the car from did not activate OnStar, so he’s never seen any kind of a message.

I have never gotten the message. I did have the trial period with it. I never used any of the features, and it expired seamlessly. You car connects two ways. It can connect via a local WiFi if you have enabled it to connect. It does not require that, but it will enable Over the Air Updates to be delivered via that path when you are connected (I allow mine to connect to my home network, which happens when it is parked in the garage). But I never receive any message about it connecting or not connecting. And, you car also has its own built in connection to a 4G cell network. It will also use that path to download OTA and to send diagnostics, which will passed along to you. None of this requires a subscription of any kind.
On board apps (not the ones in your phone that work with carplay) may require a data plan to function - and if you were using one or more of them - and your trial expired - you may be getting the message because an app is still trying to connect for data. That wont work anymore without a subscription.
If I were receiving the message that you are getting - I would do what it says - and call OnStar. The should be able to stop it or tell you how to stop it. For example, maybe you have activated an on-board app that requires a data plan - and when your trial expired, the app could no longer obtain the data (you cant use on board apps that require data without a data plan). The will try to sell you something - just decline all that and get them to stop the message.
