Rich cold start
I was recording a cold start video and noticed a puff of black smoke. It's definitely fuel. I assume this is normal?

Mine doesn't do that. I'm sure others will chime in.

It's normal for the fuel injection to be commanded rich on cold start. The extra fuel makes the catalytic converters heat up to operating temperature faster. I haven't watched mine from behind the car on a cold start, though, so I'm not sure about smoke. I haven't noticed it in the rear view mirror.

Yes, normal. As mentioned, burns rich on start-up to heat up the cats.

I haven't viewed my car from the rear on a cold start but I know the noise is MUCH louder than any start after that during the same travel.

Smoke was minimal, so definitely normal IMO. A cold engine requires a much richer mixture to start.
