Quick Mirror tap question
I have been waiting to install mine until my driver's side map light gets fixed, so we don't get accused of the mirror tap messing the light up.
The part finally came in, so I want to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible.
One more thing. Is there a slot or hole that the wires can exit the mirror through or are they just pinched between the cover and the mirror?

This is one of my How To, showing several ways I have used to install Blendmount wire tap:

I do use their wires as tried cheap one on Amazon I had to return! Below a very important Pic FROM MY PDF NOT mentioned. It's hard to see the black ground terminal. There is a gray wire next to it and if by mistake you put the black wire there it will cause the driver's door mirror to fail. There is a GM Bulletin for Techs that doesn't say where to tap (GM would NEVER tell you to tap) BUT tells a GM Tech if the driver's mirror looks like the one in pic below and there is a tap of the mirror NOT COVERED ON WARRANTY.
Pic Left is from Blendmount. Right is mine that shows not so easy to see black wire:
GM Techs are warned if driver's mirror looks like this NOT Covered on warranty as caused by mirror wire tap!

I'm not a Youtuber nor allow Youtube to put ads on my the ~25 videos I made for my business. They are more professional than most as all start with a Storyboard, just like the ad agencies used for ones they made for us in my former life before retiring and starting my own part time Internet business.
In fact my PDF's are that 1st step using a two column format, i.e. pic or video clip on one side and exact text on the other. For my video's may require three takes before I am happy with voice over. So easy to make PDFs. No restraints on length of caption!
For the Video's a lot more work. First is length. YouTube provides excellent analytics' showing for example when folks stop watching. Have to make short as you lose more audience as time increases past 5 minutes. Also have to use interesting transitions and "legal" background music. Not cheap or easy to find free! Smart to avoid cute intro's, just get to the point and better have a call for action (like where to buy) quickly.
Takes a lot of extra time from Story Board to finished short video. My PDF's are mostly just the Story Board, easy quick and can include what not to do or what to watch out for. Important to DIY folks like myself!

Thank you JT. I have been dreading this job because of that very thing. Good suggestions.

Thank you Jerry. I have indeed seen this and it is helpful. I wish your pic was a little clearer. If it was a simple as the videos suggest there wouldn't be guys ruining their mirrors. If I can get a clear shot on this I will do it otherwise, I'll be putting my Blendamount up for sale.
If you want a safe way to do it than use what I did for the last year. Used the 12 volt receptacle under the passenger dash and mounted detector on the dash! Removed from my 2020 C8 when I sold it last month and that is what i will use on my E-Ray now at 3000 waiting for GM to build.
Correct: Tap RED to RED, and BLACK to BLACK.
Wrong: Tapping either wire to the GRAY on the rearview mirror socket.
Summary: Stay away from the gray wire and you’ll be fine.
It's not blue, looks like this. It's tied to the driver's mirror dimming circuit!
